Just thought the rest of you "Freepers" would like this info. Go to http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/11/05/hitwise-ranks-election-traffic-to-news-sites/ for rest of info.
“So then what do you think has caused FR to lose some of the responsible discussion it had before?”
IMO, FreeRepublic hit its huge payday back when Freepers found out Dan Rather and the Bush military service paper fraud. And so I think there was a surge of activity on this site, as there should have been.
Since then there have been differences of opinions of candidates to support, and there have been big sweeps in banning freepers, for what all reasons I don’t know.
And I think FreeRepublic may have served its purpose for a while. Not to say its popularity and source of insightful information won’t grow again.
I hope it will. I have a lot to learn.
I hope so too.
no0bs always post heavy. give it a couple more months, you’ll slow down.
Well 70% of young, single women voted for Obama. The hot chicks in the ads referenced above were young and hopefully single.
How many unique visitors each day?
Got news for you. Abortionist supporters are NOT better posters.
FR was #22 on election day? I’m surprised, as I would’ve guessed it would be a lot lower on that particular day. Free Republic’s website was down as much or more than it was up on election day. I eventually gave up and found other sites from which to get election news and discussion, and I know a lot of other FReepers did the same. Maybe FR still made it to #22 because of the election day DNS attack on this site that JimRob mentioned in another thread? I don’t know if that would’ve been picked up as “hits” on Hitwise, do you?
FR was down for about an hour in the morning on election day. The DOS attack lasted just a few minutes a couple hours later. The system was slow because of the heavy load, but it was up all afternoon and evening and ever since.
According to our google stats, we delivered over 3,200,000 pages by midnight on election day to almost 500,000 visits by nearly 270,000 visitors. And on the 5th we had over 420,000 visits from over 270,000 visitors and delivered 2,300,000 pages. On a normal weekday, we deliver approx a million pages to approx 150,000 visitors. Our traffic more than tripled during the elections. Sorry if you couldn’t get in, but we were definitely up and open for business.
