In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
foray \FOR-ay\ noun
1. a sudden or irregular invasion or attack for war or spoils : raid
2. a brief excursion or attempt especially outside one's accustomed sphere *
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The book marks the novelists first foray into nonfiction.
Did you know?
"Foray" comes from Middle English forrayen and probably traces back to an Anglo-French word that meant raider or "forager." It's related to the word "forage," which usually means "to wander in search of food or forage." A "foray," in its earliest sense, was a raid for plunder. Relatively recently, "foray" began to take on a broader meaning. In a sense, a "foray" is still a trip into a foreign territory. These days, though, looting and plundering needn't be involved in a "foray." When you take a "foray," you dabble in an area, occupation, or pastime that's new to you.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Your daughter sounds like my son - we also homeschool. He’s 17 this year and was upset he couldn’t vote!
We stocked up on ammo yesterday after lunch.
Hubby stocked up yesterday BEFORE lunch!!!!
I wonder how long before they come to the door to collect it all?

It’s driving me batty! Not that I needed any help with that.
And unfortunately, that is the question.
(sigh)
I am upbeat. I did everything in my power to assure a McC-P victory, but it wasn’t in the cards. Therefore, we must play the cards we are dealt.
He bought it in Maryland and was not even asked for ID :)
You’re right. I am wearing black today but that’s because I walked the park with the dogs and it was chilly. Today is the first day I won’t have strangers banging around and hammering in my house so I will enjoy the quiet and listen to Rush later for further inspiration. And at this point there is nothing I can do but be glad I didn’t join the lemmings and vote for a socialist.
At the same time, Castle said the victory was bittersweet in that so many of his Republican colleagues in Delaware and in Congress failed at the polls. "It leaves me with a great deal of responsibility as one of the few Republicans left in the state," he said, and a duty to try to "help lead my party back" and work with Democrats on legislation.
He's part of the main reason there is NO Republican party in Delaware --- but he just doesn't get it.
I can only imagine now what left-wing loon the Gov will name to replace Plugs.........
He probably does get it. My state senator here's mission is life is to be the only viable Republican so if the house seat opens up he can take it. He does it on purpose.
I can only imagine now what left-wing loon the Gov will name to replace Plugs.........
I thought it was already guaranteed to Beau Biden?
Actually I’m wearing gray pinstripes today, my TV suit, since I have out of town guests coming.
I’ll have roofers at my house in two weeks to repair the wind damage from the hurricane remnants that blew through in Sept.
I’m also going to stimulate the economy this weekend by buying a new truck. A friend made me an offer I couldn’t refuse for my 6 year old Monster Truck. Dealers are practically giving away 2008 model trucks these days.
my youngest is the one i was mentioning and she is 14 and in middle school, 8th grade. it is astounding to me that she WILL be able to vote in the next presidential election! she and my now 17 yo son will be two new republicans come next presidential election. my oldest is a sophomore studying abroad in Rome with the U of Dallas, and she voted absentee.
Nope. Last I heard it will probably be the outgoing Lt. Gov. who lost the D primary for Governor. Then Beau will run for the seat in 2 years.
did you reset your preferences last night to make the thread load faster? i did and didn’t remember to go back and adjust.
America Held Hostage.
