In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
foray • \FOR-ay\ • noun
1. a sudden or irregular invasion or attack for war or spoils : raid
2. a brief excursion or attempt especially outside one's accustomed sphere *
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The book marks the novelist’s first foray into nonfiction.

"Foray" comes from Middle English “forrayen” and probably traces back to an Anglo-French word that meant “raider” or "forager." It's related to the word "forage," which usually means "to wander in search of food or forage." A "foray," in its earliest sense, was a raid for plunder. Relatively recently, "foray" began to take on a broader meaning. In a sense, a "foray" is still a trip into a foreign territory. These days, though, looting and plundering needn't be involved in a "foray." When you take a "foray," you dabble in an area, occupation, or pastime that's new to you.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

I’ve had 4 Spanish tests and I got forays.
i know you do. and maybe she will. but she is going to be taking crap for this loss, undeservedly so, and if she wanted to say screw it, i am not putting up with any more of it, i wouldn’t blame her.

xsbrownie did not want to go to school today. her friends at the new school are all obama voters and yesterday were LITERALLY in her face about it. xshub went in this AM after dropping her and spoke to the administration about it, saying that he hoped that they would make this a TEACHABLE moment about tolerance, and talk to the student body about it. it is not happening in class, it’s in the cafeteria, and locker room etc. She is a tough cookie but she literally was begging not to have to go to school. xshub told the administrator that and said we are a house of lawyers, we enjoy a good debate but we teach tolerance for other viewpoints and hope the school will do the same. he said the guy was understanding and said that the kids while passionate about the election don’t KNOW anything UNLIIKE XSBROWNIE. he has subbed in her civics class and knows she is far more knowledgeable than her peers. Unlike jax’s peers, these are no babymamas offspring, this is the Alexandria white guilt vote.
We can only go up from here..

While I understand Xsbrownie’s hesitation about going to school today, I have full faith and confidence in her abilities to take care of herself. The administrator’s comments about her come as no surprise to me.
As to the white guilt thing, you’re right, there ain’t none of that around here.
i didn’t want to go to WORK today. i have a staff meeting in a few minutes and if any one says anything to set me off i may have to walk out. xshub has a meeting in CHICAGO tomorrow and his colleagues will be in his face as well. ain’t pretty anywhere.
Need to purchase another weapon this weekend. I’m thinking a Mossberg.

I’m disgusted with PUMA. When push came to shove, they voted for the guy who grabbed the wheel of their party and turned a hard left.
