Thanks for the information, GG. I was surprised that the sunflower is indigenous to the US. (Learn something new every day - and then try to remember it. LOL!)

Pennsylvania Dutch Potato Pancakes

2 med. potatoes, peeled
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. finely chopped onion
1 tbsp. thinly sliced scallions
1 lg. egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 tbsp. vegetable oil, or as needed
1 tbsp. butter or margarine, or as needed
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Using coarsest side of hand grater, grate potatoes into large bowl. Toss with lemon juice to coat thoroughly; let stand 5 minutes. Drain well. Add melted butter, flour, onion, scallions, egg, salt, pepper and baking powder to potatoes. Mix well.

Heat 1 tablespoon each of oil and butter over medium-high heat. Add potato mixture in heaping tablespoonfuls to skillet; using tines of fork flatten each portion into a thin round. Cook 3-4 minutes on each side. Yields: about 16 pancakes.

lonestar went through Checkpoint Charlie once... only because she got off a train in East Berlin.

I wasn't there but she told me that's where my ancestors came from.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!

Amazing Grace

by John Newton

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, .
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.
.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!

Dear God, who suffered
torment, agony and death upon the Cross
to free our souls from the chains of iniquity;
protect and defend our troops.
Guide them in the performance of
their Duty.
Strengthen them to endure hardship,
danger, and deprivation in
Your service.
Let their efforts free the people
of Iraq from the chains of terror
and slavery, foster a lasting peace
in the region, and bring all to a
greater share in Your mercy.
Amen.

Good Morning, Gov.
I lived in Germany in 1968(Husband's job
brought us there)..I drove the wrong way one
day and was frightened to see I was almost in
East Germany..How soon we forget how awful that
regime was.

I adore sunflowers. And butterflies! :)

If you plant the little black oil ones, the ones most people use to feed birds, they make the loveliest sunflowers. They only get about 4’ tall and the flowers are about saucer or breadplate size, but they smell heavenly! Sometimes you get a sunflower bush, with blooms all over it. They only take about 6 weeks from seed to bloom. If you plant them every 2 weeks or so, you’ll have sunflowers all summer!

Amen, jaycee. “Most people are about as
happy as they make up their mind to be.”
Abraham Lincoln.
To keep myself happier..or at least in a
better mood..I decided to not listen to any
news shows this week..and it has worked out
great! I'd rather read the news ..Prayer helps me and my FRiends are great morale
boosters.
*HUGS*

Thank you, Meg! I should have found a brown church, but that one was so perfect, I couldn’t pass it up.

I made those potato pancakes this morning, and are they ever good!

LOL..The reason the little one was named Rocky Balboa is because she boxes with both paws. So far they haven’t made a move to get out the glass door..and certainly not with the big turkey.
