Out Of Options?
Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel. 2 Kings 5:15
As ancient Syrias mightiest military commander, General Naaman had all the benefits the empire could offer: influence, affluence, and power. All, that is, except for health! Naaman was a leper (2 Kings 5:1-3).
In contrast, the servant girl in the generals household had no options or power at all. As a captive from an army raid, she had been forced into a lifetime of slavery (v.2). But she did not permit herself to be overcome by despair and bitterness. Rather, she rose above her no-option estate to serve wholeheartedly the best interests of her master.
This servant girl didnt see her masters leprosy as Gods punishment but as an opportunity to point Naaman to Gods prophet in Samaria (v.3). Her recommendation led to Naamans complete healing. He declared, Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel (v.15).
Today, many people have abundant options. Others, however, have their choices curtailed by poverty, poor health, or other adverse circumstances. When a crisis comes, even their limited options evaporate.
Yet one choice always remains. Like Naamans servant girl, we can still choose to serve God and point others to Himregardless of our limited circumstances.
Tis mine to choose if self shall die
And never rise again;
Tis mine to yield the throne to Christ
And bid Him rule and reign. Christiansen

Thanks for the kind words, I just write’m, the muse dictates.
Here’s one to ponder
Ruminations
The sun sets, in shades of flame orange and yellow
the clouds seared with its gleam, seem yet mellow
as dusk creeps across the land, on silent slippered feet
and dreams like stars, come out to pass so soft yet fleet
A mortal man, in mortal moral impasses of the soul
lives his life, and pays the piper’s oft heavy toll
and yet in such moments, do you go beyond it all
and rise above mundane toil, as fragments of stars do fall
The open land is honest in its harsh demands on you
yet too the rewards are yours alone with which to do
and so the value is within yourself, as it should be
none may take what you’ve done, and lived, yours you see
As the fire crackles on dry wood and dreams tonight
let not the span of space, or time, determine what is right
but that which you hold inside the final judge of you
as under those stars you remember all that fate has shared too
A cup of something hot to drink, blended with a bit
something from the flask, if I were to take the bet
the fire’s glow, and the whiskey’s too to warm
as under stars and memories, dreams do but swarm
Time to think, and time to recall things gone in time
and to consider how they all fit into a celestial rhyme
a lonely fire, and single soul in thought most profound
passing time in contemplation, till dawn comes round

Another good one and true one, Johnn. I don’t think a day goes by for me and others where we do not recall something of days gone by. Most of the time its the sweet memories that I dwell on. Thanks for sharing with us.

What a Puppy Understands
by Eric R. Ode
She's small and cute but underfoot.
She won't come when I call.
She gnaws and chews my finest shoes
and piddles in the hall.
She finds disguise in umber eyes
so innocently gazing,
then howls at night with all her might
until my voice is raising.
But truth be told, although I scold
with reprimands unbending,
she cocks her head at what I've said
as if uncomprehending.
Yet when I doubt what life's about
and question all I've known;
and when my heart has come apart,
and when I cry alone,
she licks my tear and snuggles near,
her head beneath my hands.
To my surprise, I realize
she truly understands.

Ohhhhhh, that is so adorable. I am such a softie for baby animals - puppies especially just get hold of my heart and won’t let go. That is so sweet, Amy and Lori, and the poem is absolutely perfect. Good job, bof’ of you!
