PAPER: INSIDE RUSH LIMBAUGH'S COMPOUND
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/3286392/Rush-Limbaugh-The-man-whos-always-Right.html ^

Although Rush Limbaugh doesn't actually work from a bunker, he does have a bunker mentality. His studio is on the third floor of a (purposefully) anonymous building 100 yards off the white sands of Palm Beach, Florida, and about a mile from his gated mansion (the one next to Chuck Norris's). Along with the Gulfstream jet (cost: $54 million), fleet of sports cars and eight-year contract, worth $400 million, this mansion is his reward for being the most listened-to talk-radio host in America, a title he has held for 20 years.

But it is also his compensation. Professional Right-wing controversialists do tend to upset people, and Limbaugh has had his share of death threats. He has also had his quota of criticism from the media, or the liberal media, as he tends to call it. He hates interviews and has rarely given any, though he does have a soft spot for this newspaper, because it was once owned by his sometime friend and neighbour Conrad Black (currently serving a 6½-year jail sentence for fraud; Limbaugh wrote a letter to the judge attesting to Lord Black's good character).

I first started listening to Rush during Desert Storm. At that time I had a husband, 5 kids, we lived on a farm, my husband had a full time job as well. He was in the car a lot on his job and discovered Rush and he insisted that I listen.

I was so busy at that time in my life I never watched Tv or listen to the radio or read a newspaper. I could barely find time or energy to spend a few minutes with my Bible everyday.

Rush changed my life...and I mean that literally. But the most important thing he ever said was, “Words mean things”.

That statement turned out to be very profound for me and changed the direction of a lot of things.

I love Rush to death and it would be the greatest gift to be able to sit down and have a casual dinner and spend the evening talking politics.

I am not one to fawn over celebrities. I loved John Wayne when I was a kid, Elvis when I was a teenager, but I didn’t swoon over him like others did. I truly appreciated the voice that God gave him. And in my adult life, Ronald Reagan and Rush Limbaugh.

I also happen to think that Rush has kept this country from sliding over the cliff before this latest onslaught of liberal poison.

This guy is an idiot, getting it wrong on many, many things. Example:

He described the Republican candidate as a phony conservative and, when Sarah Palin first appeared, dismissed her as 'some babe McCain met at a convention'. He has come round to Palin since then, saying that she 'kicked Biden's butt' in that vice-presidential debate.

Typical condescending British twit. Rush will roast him tomorrow, if he deigns to mention it.

This is not actually a bad or unfair interview. Rush is certainly a fascinating man. Not someone I’d want to live with, but fascinating nonetheless. And in his way brilliant, far more brilliant than people give him credit for. That is not a small intellect.

Yo, Nigel. Get it right. He tends to call it the Drive-by Media.

and now he pretty much calls them: "the drive-bys"...

Something that jumped out and nearly slapped me from that article (and Rush has not been this bold about his opinion on-air) was this tidbit when asked if he thinks Obama will win:

“’No. I don’t see it, Nigel. I think he’s been dead in the water since the primaries. He is going to need to be up 10 to 12 points to win by three or four. Don’t forget that Hillary winning was a foregone conclusion, too. If the polls had been right it would have been Giuliani versus Hillary. That’s why polls a year out are worthless. Obama is going around as the acting President. It’s off-putting. Unionised blue-collar Democrats didn’t vote for him, they voted for Hillary.”

I think this guy didn't get the joke.

Good read, but the guy writes like he’s coolly examining him to see if he needs to wear special shoes for his cloven hooves. He plays at detachment but without trying too hard, because who’s kidding who: we all know this man is actually evil incarnate.

Praise God for your husband's conversion. :)

Do you ever stop and wonder what our country would be like if we didn't have him?? It's impossible to gage what his impact has been on our country, the news industry, the radio industry, etc.

I think the Lord rose him up for such a time as this.

Gotta go to bed. My sleeping pill is kicking in.

Looks like they're getting an Escalade Hybrid.

Rush said whatever GM car they wanted, even a Volt. I'll assume Rush will get Employee pricing. LOL

Yeah, I saw that too and thought about the same thing you did. Overall, though, I thought the article was very fair and provided a glimpse of Rush that we do not get to see.

I actually believe that most of their support for Obama is that they are creaming in their jeans about the historical nature of the campaign.

Now there is an expression I haven't heard in .... well a long time. I guess wusses like Mathews only get 'tingles.' :~))

I wouldn't call it fair (too many snide leftist assumptions stated as fact), but I would call it friendly. He basically likes Rush personally, although he considers him a virtual lunatic in what he believes. He clearly has no understanding of American conservatism, and seems like an anthropologist studying a remote tribe in the jungles of Malaysia when he explains it.

I heard that — when he told the caller to hold on after the call and he was going to give her a GM car. Sounded sincere, so I assume it really happened.

Sure would like to see a list of his “fleet of sports cars.”

As would I, but the last similar article on Rush spoke of his Maybach fleet. He has several of these German luxury cars that come in about half a million each.
