True (and kinda funny) story from a guy in Virginia:
Today on my way to lunch, I passed a homeless guy as I entered the restaurant. Homeless people are fairly rare in Reston but I had to laugh as the guy, despite his lot in life, clearly had a good sense of humor. You see, he had a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money."
Once in the restaurant my server had an "Obama '08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference - just imagine the coincidence. I have to say he did a fine job but when the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need - the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful. At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment, I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
He didn’t seem to want to get into whether the e-mail is true or not. He said he had received it hundreds of times. He then used it as a tool to teach what it is that 0bama wants to foist on America.
>>Stiffing a waiter entirely is in poor form and bad taste. No matter his poor political attire.<<
I firmly disagree. I will enjoy the food and then, in the end, tell the waiter his obama button precludes me from giving him a tip because I question his intelectual capacity to spend the money wisely.
Besides, I’ll need it to buy more ammo if obama wins.
No, I am not kidding. I take political attire on retail employees very seriously. I also don’t donate to street musicians who have “buck fush” stickers on their guitar cases.
The tip society should be banished and forced to pay a reasonable wage from the owner, since most of the servers have been okay at best and only a few have shined.
Found it
it was Actually Bootyist Monk that wrote it but it took off on the internet and was credited to Carlin
so its an old FR joke (sorry)

The waiter wasn't stiffed, he was paid a wage for the job he did. He was also given a $10 tip; which was redistributed to a more needy person. Now if the waiter was bent out of shape because of this, it's not the re distributor's fault.
Maybe, just maybe, the knuckle head gained a little insight that his dumb choices have consequences that he can not/or has refused to see.
As a former ten year pro of bartending/waiting, I learned to NEVER to dispute a customers choice of politically leanings, taste in music, or favorite sports teams.....to quote E. Deming, the customer MAY not always be right but they are the customer and should be treated as such...this comes from a Yankee fan who waited on more than his fair share of bosox fans with an always present temptation to ‘accidentally’ spit in their beverage........
He should have thought about that before he put on the tie. If somone makes it clear thast they disagree with my politics, I reserve the right to give him any of my money. I'll pay for the meal, but the rest is optional for a reason. It's my money... I get to decide what to do with it (the 40% that isn't already confiscated that is.)
Yeah, to people that stupid the lesson is “Republicans are mean”, which they already think anyway.
I actually disagree. A resturant is a place of business; the guy should know better than to have worn an Obama tie. Many people in the service industry deliberately do not discuss politics because they need to keep their clientele later. This is no different.
NO RELIGION
NO SEX
NO POLITICS

Trying to teach a liberal a lesson is like trying to teach a pig to sing...
It is still fun to make them upset whether they learn or not.
I’d like the opportunity! They all know better than to open their mouths at work around me.
Snopes correctrly gives credit to the BootyistMonk
Be bold and do it at a restaurant if you find out your server worships at the altar of Fauxbama.
Bootyist has not posted in 3 years, I guess busy.
Most on that thread haven’t posted in a while
I miss those days of FR sometimes
You and I are about the same in FR birthdays.
Thats eons in internet years.
Of course a transaction involves more than one. But in this scenario it’s poor form.
There’s nothing to suggest the service was poor. But then again, if someone doesn’t give me a reason to tip less, I go with 20%.
I know some folks will find a reason to hardly tip at all.
