A little advice to any young readers, dont follow Ok. State. It is bad for your health. At least in Football. The Wrestling team is uniformly awesome.Well, being as how yours truly, the host of the FR College football thread, is under the age of 30, I'll take this under advisement. ;)

So far this season has been a nice surprise, and I think we have shown we can at least compete so far this game. But in the past following the Cowboys has been a path to heartbreak. This is almost worse in some ways because I feel like we are just a few little things from being outstanding.

This is almost worse in some ways because I feel like we are just a few little things from being outstanding.I was but a really young child in the days of Thurman Thomas, Hart Lee Dykes, and Barry Sanders, but I did run across a YouTube video where even a guy like Barry Switzer came impressed with what OSU has accomplished in terms of facilities. His direct paraphrased quote was "this should strike fear into every Sooner fan". I'll have to find it sometime if it's requested...

This one? I think he is right. And for the record, OSU's campus is about a million times better looking than OU's, and that was true before the renovations to the stadium. It is also true of the co-eds attending to in my experience. Maybe I'm a little biased though...

Yep, that’s the one. If your experience with OSU coeds is indeed accurate, I’ll have to make the excursion to beautiful Norman, OK, when my Utes play the Sooners play in hoops and then hang in Stillwater in December just to make sure. ;)

You always know how important football is in a given state when you watch FSN Southwest and you see an entire hour is devoted to Texas HS Football. Not that I disagree with it, but still... Texas is the only state besides Alabama where HS football is really big stuff.
It is quite nice, in reality. Went to San Antonio to see a friend's kid get married recently, and sure enough, for a social outing we went to a HS football game. There were probably 4-5,000 people there.
It reminded me of my hometown where, on Friday night, just about everybody turned out to watch the Tigers vs the Rebels (or Blue Devils). First place I ever smoked a cigarette (under the bleachers, of course!!), or held a girl's hand. It was a genuine community event, local athletes with talent were causes for pride in the city, and there was more...., "togetherness."
I think we would be better off if there was more of that, but I don't quite know how we could bring it about.
I loved the movie a couple of years back "Friday Night Lights." My wife did not understand the big deal, but it really was a big deal back then.

The Friday Night Lights TV show has been excellent as well. But I think if you aren’t from a small town you just don’t understand what the big deal is.

It's one reason of many why I love to host this thread.

I would like to thank EXPN and ABC for their excellent regional coverage here in Arizona with UM-MSU and UCLA-Cal. I have been forced to watch those mighty SEC defenses duke it out with UGA-LSU.
