Top Gun vs. UFO

Locked on ... Sabre jet had UFO in sights

A FORMER Top Gun told yesterday how he was ordered to shoot down a massive UFO — over NORWICH.

RAF controllers told US pilot Milton Torres to “lock on” and launch all 24 of his rockets over the city.

Tale ... Milton Torres as a young man, and today

Tale ... Milton Torres as a young man, and today

But as he came within seconds of firing at the alien intruder — “the size of an aircraft carrier” on his radar — it vanished at 10,000mph.

The amazing close encounter is revealed in secret Ministry of Defence X-Files which are declassified today.

Milton said: “It was some kind of alien snooping over England. I guess we’ll never know what it was.”

The incident happened in 1957 when Milton was a 26-year-old US Air Force lieutenant based at RAF Manston in Kent.

At 11pm one night he was ordered to scramble in his F-86D Sabre fighter to attack a “bogey” hovering above Norfolk.

Speaking about it publicly for the first time, he said: “I was told I would be firing a complete salvo, all 24 rockets. I was pumped up — this was the sort of thing that happened before a war.”

He got the UFO on his radar and closed for the attack at the Sabre’s top speed of almost 700mph — then it disappeared off his screen in a flash.

Milton, now 77, said: “I was smoking, as fast as I could go. This thing had a different propulsion system. It was not an airplane.”

The flyer said he was visited afterwards by a sinister security official and warned not to tell anyone — so he kept silent until now.

The close encounter is in 19 files made available online yesterday by the National Archives.

Sorry this is off-topic, but is the cockpit of that plane open?!

It is ... it looks like a photoshop job. Possibly even a photoshop of a plastic model.

Note that the front tire (tyre?) is NOT spinning. Also, no visible jet exhaust.

Now ... nobody's claiming that the picture is of the airplane in the report taking off ... but real, archival photos are available. Why use such an obvious fabrication?

Oh really?

I suppose you were there?

Oh, I know, you were in charge!

Or you promulgated the regs for such incidents.

Or your logic just happens to trump reality far and wide.

sooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo

IMPRESSIVE.

That particular incident was very telling.

There was many thousands and thousands of hours of flight experience on that plane.

And, as you say, electronic confirmation and recordings.

Whatever it was, it wasn’t no swamp gas.

Wrong. He was flying the F-86D version. It had no guns, only a belly pack with 24 folding-fin air to air unguided rockets.

A pic for your troubles....

Consider the number of posts in this thread debating the veracity of simply a manmade jet aircraft, how it is deployed operationally and its armaments. Now compare those to the comments one is likely to encounter discussing veritable reports of UFO sightings.

IMHO, there is likely things to be learned from these encounters beyond our state of the art.

That’s perceptive critical thinking.

Nothing tinfoil about that pondering.

Thanks.

There were and are still formal reporting procedures and regs that apply.

Commercial pilots typically ignore them to avoid the hassles, too.

Wow, a sensible, knowledgeable explanation.

Of course, hell will freeze over before a naysayer will admit such a sensible explanation as remotely possible.

But that’s another issue.

Come to think of it, Socialist Empires pronounce Lieutenant as “LEFTenant”. No coincidence, I’m sure.

THANKS TONS.

I’M VERY BLESSED TO BE PROVEN WRONG.

What an admirable manly and mature thing to do.

Congrats.

The F-86D was an all-weather interceptor armed with a retractable box launcher of 24 air to air rockets; later on it added a pair of Sidewinders. It didn't look much like the picture; it had a large radome on the nose.
The rockets were aimed using a radar sight. A similar aircraft was the Northrop F-89 Scorpion; it had even more rockets, and, later on, a pair of Genie unguided nuclear missiles.

Unfortunately, these rockets weren't very accurate; they were intended for use against bomber boxes similar to what was deployed in WWII. CV sized or not, though, most, if not all, of those rockets would have missed!

In some contexts and political climates with some CO’s

career hindering stuff could get inserted in personnel files from such incidents.

Dreadful that was possible but happened more than a few times.

This thing had a different propulsion system. It was not an airplane.
I think 10,000 MPH velocity as it left may have been the first clue. ;') Thanks Stoat and Quix.

Check out the more than 3,000 cases which have left tangible evidence well researched.

It was one of the presentations of the AZTEC 2008 UFO SYMPOSIUM.

I’ve a thread about it on here somewhere.

So, you’re one of those waiting for a UFO to land in your lap and castrate you before you’ll believe they exist?

Nope. I'm a believer. I was trying to refer to those who quickly dismiss these reports out of hand. Sorry... not enough coffee yet.

At this point in time . . . with so many increases in such goings on the last 12 months . . .

imho, the evidence is mounting rapidly that

the BS appears to be 95% collecting between the ears of the naysayers.
