Did I miss something? Why does Che appear in the address bar and the tab when I open Free Republic? Do I need to refresh my tinfoil beanie?

Increase your dosage.
I’m guessing you’re talking about the favicon in the address bar? And it’s Che?

Can you replace ‘infitrated’ with ‘infiltrated’ in the title, please?
Before anyone notices?

Mine has the usual Red “white star” blue logo.
You may have a virus, is your favorite URL file the same?

You need to give a little more information.
mac or pc?
what browser?
I’d say the easy thing would be to reboot the machine and see if it’s still there. I have seen older Internet Explorers do that and it fixed when rebooted.

I’d bet my ass that you have visited Obama’s website and what you’re seeing is a subliminal ICON secretly posited in your system. UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN! You are infected!!!!! FREEPERS, DO NOT TOUCH!

You've been soiled with a BHO...a Browser Helper Object. Download and run "HiJackThis" and then look for unwanted BHOs or other nasties in the report it generates.
Be careful and know what you are getting rid of before pulling the trigger. You could screw things up if you delete something that is needed.

On Internet Explorer go to Tools>Internet Options and then clear your cookies, history, and delete files including offline files. That’ll do it.
