Funniest movies of all time
toadman

Posted on 10/10/2008 7:07:10 AM PDT by Toadman

Hi fellow Freepers. I did a search and did not find this topic. If you know of a previous post, please redirect.

I've been hogging our Netflix (history, documentary, military genres) and realize the wife and kids need some levity.

Would you all take the time and give me an opinion of what you consider to be the best funny movies you've seen. I'm talking from the silent era of Charlie Chaplin up to the most present ala American Carol.

It doesn't matter if it's dark humor to vulgar humor to Walt Disney. Thanks for your input!

Funniest movie I watched was “10” with Dudley Moore. I still laugh to just think about that cab ride to the resort in Cabo San Lucas!!!

The Mouse That Roared with Peter Sellers. I think it came out around 1962 or 1963.

I can’t believe no one mentioned “History of the World, Part I”...definitely a classic! Throw in some “Blazing Saddles”, add a heaping teaspoon of “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”, and garnish with “South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut”. Serve with a side of “American Pie”.

All the “Curly’s” of the Three Stooges shorts.

Great show, but they hate America.

And France, and ... well, they pretty much rag on everybody. You have to take it with a grain of salt. They did like the latest Corvette though, and the Mustang tweaked with better suspension, and until the latest one they complained about how screwy and dangerous TVRs are.

And he loved his Ford F40, until it started breaking down all the time and texting him to tell him it was stolen while he was driving it to work. That was a hilarious episode.

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned “Trading Places” yet, especially given what is happening at the moment!

Can’t believe no mention of “Yellowbeard”, either.

I can't believe this has gone 131 posts and nobody has mentioned

Van Wilder

The scene with the eclairs is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Sick, but funny.

Also, I haven't seen anyone mention Old School, which is just flat out hilarious.

Sorry - I just posted that I hadn’t seen anyone mention Old School. You already had. When Frank the Tank was running naked through down the street and his wife and her friends stopped to pick him up - HILARIOUS!

Many good choices. Two overlooked films -

One, Two, Three - James Cagney's last film before he came back for a bit part in Ragtime. He plays a Coke executive in West Germany whose US boss is coming to pay him a visit while his daughter is in love with an East German commie. Extremely funny!

Operation Mad Ball - starring Jack Lemmon, Mickey Rooney, Ernie Kovacs, Dick York, Arthur O'Connell. Completely funny from beginning to end.

History of the World Part I

I'll second this one; it deserves a better showing in this thread.
