Fascinating.
There was a story a while back about a couple grad students who were gonna try to identify and classify the species in one cubic centimeter of sea water, thinking there might be a thousand species or so.
Last I heard, they were up over 25,000.
And still counting.

As the glaciers melt, killer Chryseobacteria will be released into the oceans, killing off fish, then wiping out land organisms as the oceans, swollen by meltwater, inundate the continents.
