Make A U-Turn

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. —Isaiah 53:6

When we went on a weekend road trip with some friends, we had our first experience using a Global Positioning System. The GPS has a female voice, so our friends John and Mary call their device Gladys. We programmed our destination into the GPS, and she did her job and plotted our course. Then we sat back. Having put our faith in this little navigator, we let her direct us.

“Turn right in .2 miles,” Gladys said confidently. She was right—Gladys is always right. In fact, when we made an unexpected detour to get gas, she got a bit insistent: “Please make a U-turn . . . Please make a U-turn at your earliest convenience!”

Gladys had calculated a route for us, but we had gone a different way. That was our choice, naturally. But if we had continued going our own way, we would have become lost.

Isaiah 53:6 reminds us that just like sheep, we have a tendency to go astray. That’s why we need a Shepherd to guide us and a Savior to pay the penalty for our sin.

No matter how far you’ve traveled in the wrong direction, it’s not too late to turn around. God is ready to forgive and restore (Ps. 32:5). If you’re headed down the wrong road, please make a U-turn.

Autumn reflection

I lost my beloved Susan on the last day of Summer so Autumn has been a time of reflection for me as I selected photos for the memorial service to honor her and her life's work. In a sense, for me, Susan is the leaf that has fallen from the Tree of Life, still colorfully bright in all my memories of the good times we had together, but alone in her uniqueness as a Renaissance Woman. Of all the people I know, Susan came closest in self-actualization--whether it be her award-winning pen & inks and acrylic paintings, her service to the indigent community as Chair of the Floating Hospital board of trustees, her work as a healer of pain as Chief Physical Therapist at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical and in her private practice for 26 years, or her love of opera, drama, gourmet cooking, travel, books, films, history and travel. She was a wonderful person and loving wife. I loved her, and I miss her dearly as my personal Winter approaches. Thank you for all your tributes and kind words.

Thank you for letting us share her most amazing life....we cannot imagine what an accomplished lady Susan was but we do appreciate your letting us know more about her. Please know your friends have thought of your loss almost daily and we will walk down that road with you!

When my son was married (in a wedding celebrating all the Jewish traditions), this was the song that was played when he and I danced together, alone on the ballroom floor, at their reception. I did fine, until I heard the words, “When did he grow to be so tall?”

I looked up at this 6’1” handsome man, now married, and the tears started.

And, they started again, this morning, nearly fifteen years later, as I relived that moment. Thank you, Amy and Billie.

With the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, not quite 43, became the youngest President in the Nation’s history. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency, as he vigorously led Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy.

He took the view that the President as a “steward of the people” should take whatever action necessary for the public good unless expressly forbidden by law or the Constitution.” I did not usurp power,” he wrote, “but I did greatly broaden the use of executive power.”

National Potato Day

Cheesy Roasted Puck Potatoes

4 Baking Potatoes
2 Cups Italian Dressing
4 Tablespoons Grated Parmesan Cheese

Bake or microwave baking potatoes until three-quarters done. Cut potatoes lengthwise into quarters.

Marinate in Italian dressing for 1 hour.

Roll quartered potatoes in parmesan cheese and grill over indirect heat for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serves 4.

Now you're going to get me started. It's a beautiful song - the words I never really paid a lot of attention to, until the melody was going around in my head as I 'did' this beautiful sunrise/sunset graphic for today's welcome (which OESY posted some time ago - the absolute most beautiful sunrise/sunset I have EVER seen!) I like to 'see' the lyrics and I hear the music.

Thank you, yorkie. I'm glad the music touched you and brought back beautiful memories of your son's wedding.

I have not been here since Wednesday, and there are so many pings and posts I just can't catch up with, but, Amy, Lori and Meg, I ALWAYS love the opening posts each day and seeing the holiday posts! Those I will always check out. :)

OESY, I see you are back, and we have missed you. I know you have many lonely days and nights still ahead, and especially with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season almost upon us.

Dolly, I read that you broke your wrist, and hope that the pain is beginning to be less intense. I can fully understand that pain - breaking mine about three years ago. (mine was my left wrist, and being left-handed, learning to 'write a check' with my right hand was pretty awkward - have never seen such scribble!)

jaycee! I saw some very pretty graphics you posted with TABLE borders! YAY!!! Just keep practicing - you may not know what or why it works, but just keep doing it! You'll get there - right, Meg? :)

Friends ... I had planned to spend a little time here yesterday but the day flew by.

Marissa and I spent the afternoon at a birthday party. Since they party was at a Jump House in Fresno, it was a long day. One and half hours driving (round trip) and two and half hours at party.

But, I did read the thread .... last night and this morning.

First ... Meg .. thank you for being a beautiful hostess. Your graphics were awesome, as always.

The Mayor .. Your Daily Bread posts yesterday and today were truly appreciated. It always helps to start the day with a scripture lesson.

Jaycee ... thank you for your beautiful graphic and congratulations on your first table. Ya did good. Thank you for the beautiful posts you bring to Amy’s Place.
