In the 18th century, silhouettes (shadow profiles traced and cut from black paper) were a popular alternative to costly portraits. The word took its name from the French controller general of finance, Étienne de Silhouette. During the Seven Years War against England, he tried to raise revenues by heavily taxing the wealthy. Victims of his high taxes complained and used the word silhouette to refer to their wealth being reduced to a mere shadow of what it once was.

With the destruction of Jerusalem, Jeremiah lamented over the shadow of what once was a great city and center of worship now devastated by war. “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow” (Lam. 1:12).

But Jeremiah did not remain in despair. He recognized God’s sovereignty in suffering. Later in this book of sorrow, the prophet reflected: “I have hope. Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning” (3:21-23).

Has sorrow or suffering made your life feel like a dark silhouette of what it once was? Remember, God’s mercies are new every morning. He is compassionately working in your life for His glory and your blessing.

I just wanted to let all of you know how much I enjoyed yesterday's thread. I didn't get to join in but I did look at it all last night. So many pretty pictures, graphics, poems,comments,.....it was just beautiful! I realize each and every day how important and beautiful it is to be at "Amy's Place". Thank you, Megster! I miss being on....but there are those days. I will be in and out today but will see you all! I loved your ‘leaf picture’. You should see my yard....thats when fall is not pretty~~LOL~~

The local squirrels chew branches off the maples in spring when they’re covered in seed pods. If I can remember and pick some up, the “helicopters” make great fall decorations.

My son and his girlfriend drove over to Roan Mountain Sunday to enjoy the turning of the leaves. It is about an hour's drive from here and it is a beautiful place to drive this time of year. He promises me he will try to get some of his new house in the woods before all the leaves fall but I will keep my fingers crossed as he has to go back to Louisiana again next week. I love the moon picture.

I am running back and forth..Some days are busier than others for me..Our leaves are not yet falling so I have a breather on yardwork...for awhile..BBL..

I meant to send you all a link to Roan Mountain. They have lots of festivals there yearly and one of the best is the Rhododendrun Festival. Also a State Park and many things to do the year around. I hardly go over there anymore though. Just one of those things.
