The Hobbit Hole XXXVII - ...Down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed!

Posted on 09/25/2008 6:43:34 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Sounds delightful. I’ll bet it’s easy on the skin, too!

It will be in a few weeks! Right now it's still rather caustic. ;)

What do you think the cause of the cover coming off....weird event....?!!??

Since it is a piece of spring steel, and tempered so that the sides act as springs, one guess is that age has weakened the temper. Or else wartime quality standards and materials slipped.

The cover and the loaded-chamber indicator do not affect safety or functionality, but it's a bit puzzling to see something fly off the top of your weapon, and look down into the slide and see an empty area that used to have stuff in it.

Understand ......and I hate seeing parts missing or flying through the air as well. Bad day if you were to lose such from a treasure such as that connected with family history.

I have a Krag Carbine, 30-40 (30 army) that my grandfather used as a teen in Colorado . He was childhood friend of the boxer Jack Dempsey. They rode fence together and my grandfather carried the Krag Carbine. I treat that like a precision piece of tooling. Carefully reload for it and have had NDE performed to see if I need to hang it on the wall before it self destructs. I still get a Mulie with it every year. My treasured firearm with history of it’s own.....:o)

Fantastic!

Makes you feel good, doesn’t it? I always felt ridiculously proud of myself when I made soap!

I make mine absolutely plain, though...with just lye water and Crisco...then I use it to wash my veggies.

I just did up another one that is coconut oil, olive oil, and canola. Canola! Only peanut and corn oil is cheaper! And yes, I feel ridiculously proud. teehee.

So it has to sit for a while to mellow out, before it can be used? I have a book on Soapmaking, but it’s in a box in our cargo trailer in MS.

It all depends on which approach you use. I used a low-temperature approach which means the reaction isn’t finished until long after I pour it into the mold. There are other techniques which use higher temps to get the rxn to run faster and finish in a shorter period of time. Each technique produces different textures and looks to the soap.

Where are you off to tonight? We’ve got snow now, and I just noticed you aren’t even home!

I’m back now. I went up to have Christmas of a sort with the Puyallup family. I kept tellin’ ‘em I needed to go ‘cause there was snow coming, and I don’t think anyone really believed me until it started.

It was a very, very unfun drive home. But I’m home. Probably shouldn’t have parked in the drive, but it’s supposed to turn to rain late, so maybe I’m safe.

Ah - OK - you must have just snuck in! Well, glad you made it back, I was picturing that wherever you were, the roads might be becoming unfun.

This wind is a little unfun.

The combination of slick roads and wind is exceptionally unfun. Especially in a lightweight little car amidst large tractor trailer trucks.

I thought we canceled our subscription to winter?

Looks like this bit of wind is going to be with us awhile, so I hope it doesn’t get stronger. They’re not predicting more than 20s... but it’s going to go all night and most of tomorrow.

You could've used your stored-value credit cards to contribute to the Obama campaign instead.

Y'all stay safe.

Evening - can’t shoot what you don’t see. There will be other seasons to come and not that far off.

Loading benches are the friend of folks during the off seasons.
