Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

September 9, 2008
The Chimp’s Birthday Card
The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” —Genesis 3:12

Not long ago my wife asked me to pick up a belated birthday card for her brother. Scanning the rack, I ran across a card with a chimpanzee on the front holding a phone receiver in his hand.

This is what it said: “I better not hear . . . about how upset you are that I missed your birthday. I mean, how do you know I wasn’t in a serious car accident and lying in some ditch out in the middle of nowhere? . . . Well, I may have forgotten your birthday, but I didn’t exactly get any phone calls to see if I was okay. All I know is you better have a good excuse why I didn’t hear from you on your birthday!”

The extent to which people avoid legitimate responsibility is almost laughable, but it is nothing new. When God confronted Adam for eating the forbidden fruit, he chose to blame his wife and God: “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate” (Gen. 3:12).

When we have done something wrong, we can either accept legitimate blame for what we have done or shift the blame to others. The way that pleases God and results in spiritual growth is to accept personal responsibility for our actions. Irrationally blaming others is no laughing matter.

His eye our secret thoughts behold,
His mercies all our lives enfold,
He knows our purposes untold,
You cannot hide from God! —Ackley

A good test of a person’s character is his behavior when he is wrong.

(Just Wanna be Your) Teddy Bear ~ Elvis Presley

(words & music by Mann-Low)

Baby let me be
your lovin' Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

I don't wanna be a tiger
'Cause tigers play too rough
I don't wanna be a lion
'Cause lions ain't the kind you love enough
Just wanna be, your Teddy Bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

Baby let me be, around you every night
Run your fingers through my hair
And cuddle me real tight
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your Teddy Bear

I don't wanna be a tiger
'Cause tigers play too rough
I don't wanna be a lion
'Cause lions ain't the kind you love enough
Just wanna be, your teddy bear
Put a chain around my neck
and lead me anywhere
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear
Oh let me be (oh let him be)
Your teddy bear

I just wanna be your teddy bear

I'm having the worst time staying connected this morning, so please bear with me - have many "Let's be Teddy Bears" to post if I don't get kicked off.

Teddy Bears on Parade ~ 5-8-06

How many do you have? Do you still have your childhood Teddy Bear? Did you ever wonder how Teddy Bears got their name? For any of you who didn't know - or don't remember the story behind the name of these squeezable, huggable little stuffed bears.......very briefly, it goes like this:

In November of 1902, Theodore Roosevelt, our 26th President, went on a hunting trip near Little Sunflower River in Mississippi. To make sure that the President had an easy target and wouldn't go home empty-handed, his hosts had captured and stunned a little bear cub and tied him to a tree. President Roosevelt, however, refused to shoot the defenseless cub and made them set it free.

The press who were covering Roosevelt's visit quickly heard of the incident, and the Washington Star's political cartoonist Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon of the incident entitled Drawing the line at Mississippi. The cartoon, which emphasized the helplessness of the cub, was printed in all the papers, and Roosevelt's popularity soared as a result of his actions. For the rest of his political career President Roosevelt's mascot was 'Teddy's Bear', which Berryman continued to use in all his cartoons and which played a key part in the Presidents successful re-election campaign of 1905.

I am just checking in but I can’t stay. Will be back later in the day. Pool people are closing the pool....were supposed to do it every day last week..duh? I am also having lunch with a friend and then back to my house for ice cream and brownies I made yesterday.

The rose is absolutely gorgeous, G.B. I cannot make out the rabbit...wonder if my eyes are deceiving me this morning.

I will never get caught up because I have missed so much. The world is spinning a bit too fast lately it seems and I’m trying to keep up.

Have a beautiful day, everyone!

Okay, now that you know the holidays for today, I presume we'll be seeing a Teddy Bear eating a hot dog? :)

Morning, OESY, another BEAUTIFUL sunrise!

Thank you, jaycee - you prolly know I have more fun doing these silly little things than anything!

Yesterday, I couldn't even connect - my phone line dedicated to the computer was dead, and this morning it's slower than usual, as well as just kicking me off in the middle of posting, so today will likely be sporadic for me, dang it! (AT&T will be here SOMETIME between 8 and 5)

Billie, I’m on fast speed but I am having trouble posting. It makes me double post sometimes.

When I posted to GeeBee, the teddy bears hadn’t shown up because I had been lurking.

We need to have a party for you later today~~~It is fun doing things when you love to do it. We can tell you love to do it and I hope you know we are so appreciative! I’m hanging around. My friend won’t be here for a little bit. I have a van and two pool trucks in my driveway! Drives me batty! Why does everything happen in one day?
