The Isle of Youth and West Cuba are in trouble.
I was hoping this was not going to go this way.
And right now I’m listening to the great Ray Nagin who is barely cognizent of the details of the preparation.
Thought you were going to the Fair? What are you doing online still?
Gosh, better see how my nephew in Galveston is doing. And, I forgot but my niece is in NO, back at college. Sheesh, wonder if she’s evacuated yet?
susie
Nagin saying “now is the time to start shutting the tourist activity down.”
Seems a touch late to me, considering what the models were saying Thursday.
Harrod’s Casino shutting down at 4? How about shutting it down at 2?
Do you mean the fact he wasn't aware of special needs, including wheelchairs for evacuation? Fortunately, a mature adult took over the microphone. Nagin was grinning like the fool that he is.
Per wltv.com....
BREAKING NEWS: City of New Orleans.
Nagin to tourists: It’s time for you to go
Nagin - Mandatory evacuation likely to be called later today
Nagin: Strongly encourages everyone to evacuate now.
No need to register any longer for bus service, just go to pickup points.
Does America's Chocolate Mayor have drivers for his busses this time?
It’s quite evident there is a much more intense sense of urgency compared to three years ago among those who must make everything work.
There’s nothing like a little flash of Hell (Katrina) to make folks behave differently.
Fair didn’t open until noon. We are leaving in 15 min.
Fried, chocolate dipped bacon, here I come!!! No...seriously, I do the fried cheddar cheese, and that’s about it. Tried fried choco dipped cheesecake at Rabbit Fest back in May...couldn’t finish it...
Smoked Turkey Legs, that’s another story. nom nom nom
Yeah, definite prayers for them.
It starts to get nervewracking as soon as they call contra-flow on the interstate highways.
Thankfully, they called it a day earlier than last time (as I recall).
well, everyone needs one last chance to blow their evacuation cash...
Louisiana Activates Gustav Hotline
The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) has activated a toll-free number citizens may call to get the latest information regarding Hurricane Gustav.
Citizens may dial 1-866-288-2484 to listen to a recorded message with the most up-to-date information state officials have on the storm and preparations for it.
Gustav is now a major hurricane and is expected to impact Louisiana as early as Monday.
Residents are asked to continue to monitor local media for updates as the state continues to prepare for possible landfall of Hurricane Gustav. The message will be updated as news warrants.
Citizens with internet access can also visit www.emergency.louisiana.gov for the latest information related to Hurricane Gustav.
TWC reported just now that the Air Force Recon clocked a gust of 162 in the eye wall.
Ooooh. Ouch.
Nagin gave me the same sense of laissez les bon temps roulez today as he did in 2005. I was impressed by how quickly he was shuffled away from the microphone. That’s an improvement.
We can only hope Nagin learned from Katrina! At least Jindal is in charge instead of Blanko!
Bumpy ride for the hurricane hunters...and several hours of hell for West Cuba.
Gov MeeMaw called in on Moon Griffon’s show this past Wednesday whining and crying and blubbering about how unfairly she’s been treated over Katrina.
Poor thing.
Jindal seems to have a good grip on the problem so far. I hope the people listen!
