BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Call it CSI: DNA.
With William Petersens announcement this week that he will leave his role as Gil Grissom on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS Entertainment boss Nina Tassler didnt even wait for questions before addressing the departure Friday during her Q&A with critics. Petersen will stay with the hugely popular show through episode 10 of this season and will make return appearances, Tassler said. That was easy to grasp.
The description of a new character taking or not taking Petersens place, however, led to some confusion and a series of questions.
The writers have "created a great character," Tassler said. "Hes a doctor, a scientist whos got a very interesting DNA that is going to inform the duality of the character." Interesting DNA? "He has an interesting genetic profile that in certain sorts of medical contexts theyve noticed that many times serial killers have that same genetic profile," Tassler said in response to a reporters request for clarification. "And this gentleman knows this about himself and is sort of in this journey and and to discover who his true character will ultimately become."
So the new CSI boss is a serial killer? ...
She said the role hasnt been cast yet but will be played by an "actor of stature." According to several Internet reports, Laurence Fishburne and John Malkovich have been approached, but the Newark Star-Ledger reports that Tassler said Malkovich turned down the offer.

I like Bones a lot better than House.
He could pull off the character as described.
it was a great show but has run its course i am afraid to say. sara is gone, warick is gone now after last season and now gris....
Buthere still is Catherine (sigh)
"William Petersen is leaving, so we've decided to replace him with . . . the premise of Dexter."
He got off without prison time, so he's back on.
I like the blonde woman from CSI: Miami. I heard somewhere that the actress who plays her is a conservative. Anyone know if that’s true or just a rumor?
She played the token conservative on West Wing. Don’t know if she is really a conservative or just plays one on TV.
Emily Proctor is conservative.
Yes, it is clear that CSI has jumped the shark!
Too bad, Petersen was my favorite actor on CSI. It’s interesting to note that for many years well-known film actors refused to do tv considering it demeaning. But with accomplished film actors Petersen and Gary Sinise doing tv maybe that thought is changing.
And Lady Heather is probably gone because she was sort of Grissom’s kinky love interest. With him gone, who’s she gonna play off of?
Don’t answer that.
He sure looked like he could survive..... /sarc
I only watch when I am stuck to my chair while my daughter forces me. The show is contrived, preachy, and unbelievable on both the scientific and sociological level.
like when he figured out where the boat would be found by setting up his own big tub of water. “Science”?
Or how every week seemingly intelligent people actually TALK to the police, and end up confessing.
