Since Iran has unique historical, cultural and natural tourism attractions, its tourism industry has the potential to replace oil as a source of revenue.

Expressing this on Wednesday at the International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Home Designing, Interior Decoration, deputy head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) for tourism affairs Mohammad Sharif Malekzadeh said that certainly over-reliance on oil alone are among the reasons for the underdevelopment of the national economy.

He further said, "In the past three years, a considerable growth was witnessed in the tourism industry thanks to efforts made as well as active presence in international tourism scenes." This trend will continue until the objectives are materialized, he noted.

Referring to the country's capacities and potentials in the field of tourism, he said that effective information dissemination and professional use of the blessings will play crucial role in the development of tourism industry.

Stating that Iran is among the first five and top ten countries in terms of natural attractions and historical attractions respectively, Malekzadeh also said necessary conditions for taking advantage of the capacities should be prepared through interaction and national resolve.

Describing furniture and decoration as among the necessary means to promote tourism, the official said that foreign tourism in the initial stage attends to the target country's art and civilization.

"Iranian art is unparalleled in the fields of designing and handicrafts," he said.

First International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Home Designing, and Interior Decoration which is attended by experts from Italy, Britain, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Malaysia, China, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan Republic and Turkmenistan is currently underway and will conclude on Thursday.

What a place to go. Just where my family wants to take a vacation. Nothing like a trip to Sharia Land.

Many American tourists travel to Iran. Also, many Euro New Agers on the way to India by train. Nothing would stop Australian or NZ youth from their own tour of the planet.
War is cutting the numbers of tourists of course

For some reason Ahmadinejad, reminds me of lord Farquaad
from Shrek. I wonder if he will make the same type of visitor center, and if his palace is also trying to cover up other short comings?

Is Iran still an Islamic Republic, as extreme as back in the day of the hostage crisis and the Ayotollahs?

We still don’t have diplomatic relations with Iran, do we?

Just doesn’t seem right to talk about tourism. On the one hand they want our tourist dollars, and on the other hand, it’s death to America?

USA is not the only country on the planet. This is news to some no doubt. Iran has tourism from many countries, and some from the USA. They actually like American tourists and would like more.

Actually the Iranian people are some of the most pro-American in the world. Persians are known for their hospitality. I bet you would be much better treated than say in Europe and other parts of the world.

Y'know, for people willing to travel on foot.

But I thought the Iranians were destroying their historical attractions. Like building a dam that threatens to flood Pasargadae, the city of Cyrus the Great.

So they raise money by selling the tourists back to their families?

Sure, but tourists experience an hour and a half wait at the public stonings.
