Just bought a CD by Little Big Town. First new country act in a long time that I’ve liked.

My son is in Nashville trying to make it as a singer songwriter. He has been overwhelmed by the help and encouragement he has received by most of the artists he has met. Jim Lauderdale is one of the guys who has gone out of his way to always have something good to say everytime he sees my son.

There is only one country singer, 1 part-time country singer and the rest are pop acts. That right there demonstrates the problem in country music, Keith Urban is no more country than Bob Marley. These people know that even less acts making it in pop/rock so they call themselves country to have exposure to a larger market and they pollute to country music scene.
And he could eat up his weight in groceries....
I hear you & I hate it. American Idol is contributing to it as well. I don’t mind these people being on “pop” radio (it’s where they belong) but they are destroying country music.
I’m at the point where I’d be happy with a “George only” radio station.

In the old-school bent, I've been listening to The Sundowners, a band that held court in a basement dive bar in Chicago next to the Greyhound station for something like thirty years of five-nights-a-week shows.
Most of the tracks were recorded live in bars over the decades, complete with beer mugs clinking in the background. Seriously real deal.
Speaking of Jim Lauderdale, I recently saw this documentary on PBS about shape note singing called “Awake My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp.” Jim Lauderdale did the narration. Great documentary. Although I’m a multi-generation Southerner, I was not aware of shape note singing until I started hearing about it. Then I saw and heard an example of it in “Cold Mountain.”
I’ll have to ask my relatives in the Florida panhandle if they were ever exposed to it. How about anyone else out there? That’s about as country as you can get.
