Texas Booster, Thanks for the reply. Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back. I wanted to see how the new machine would do after the first week. So far it’s done very well. I’m still having some issues with the dreaded Blue Screen of Death, but it seems to be related to the Netgear wireless antenna - not a happy camer with Vista. Hope you get the 50% CPU useage problem resolved; it looks like you got some great advise - that’s exactly what I did, and it’s working well. Again, thanks......Colin

Compared to the systems that I used to run F@H on, the new CPUs simply blow them away. I can remember two and three weeks for a single work unit to complete, running 24 x 7. With some of my part time systems I would worry if they would complete within the old 100 day time limit.
Now I regularly see work units being completed in two or three days. I have a dual core system that will finish a 300 point work unit in about two days, and I run a work unit on each core. That's good points.
With the GPU card I can finish the special work units in less than a day, and usually complete two each day. I am looking at a new NVidia card or a new ATI 4850 after the August price drops. Either one should almost double my output, all by themselves.
F@H has come a very, very long way since I started running Genome@Home in the mid-90s on a 386.

Maybe it’s just the units I’m being assigned, but each core in my new dual core system is finishing about 3-4 units/day. The new machine has processed 56 work units in 8 days. I finally made it in the top 20 producers for FR!!
Just for fun I reread the first F@H post on FR the other day. It’s been just a couple of years, but WOW have things changed.
My PS3 runs folding, have not turned on in awhile.
Well, I succeeded in setting up the cores as you instructed. I did not use the beta but the 5.04 instead. Only thing is, now I have two cores with “Core Download Error” instead of just one! Baffling.
Back then we were all trying to get to 1000 points per day, as a TEAM.
All I can say about your new system, is that it runs rings around mine. I have an Intel Dual core, but it is nearly a year old (gasp! the horror!).
Am finishing up the install of an AMD laptop dual core. Seems very fast, even with Vista 64 on it.

Now, if you would turn on your PS3 and make sure that your Team number is 36120, and that your FReepname is listed as the user, you would appear on the folding charts in less than a week.
All folding is good, folding for The Gipper is better!
The core download errors will usually retry for 24 to 48 hours and all of a sudden the WU will start working. Also, with this text only version, how do I go about checking the WU status? Thanks TB.

If you are running under Vista there seem to be a few challenges. What a surprise.
Here is the fix:
"Are you using Vista by any chance?
If you are, the solution is to install the client somewhere other than Program Files (C:\FAH is a sensible replacement)."

Just discovered that if you close the windows on the running text, it shuts F@H down.
Always have it run as a service when you use the console. That allows you to have it start in the background and hide away, folding happily.
To close the DOS box for F@H properly, use CRTL-C to stop F@H and close the box. It makes shutdown tidier for F@H.
If you want an explanation for why Vista is so difficult, well, now we all understand why Macs can be beautiful.
I don’t have consoles anymore, just DOS boxes, and if I close them F@H quits folding.
By selecting the “Run as a Service” item then you won't need DOS boxes anymore after a reboot.
Sorry if my terminology is confusing.
As TB pointed out-- there's nothing that should keep the scripts from working. You may have to jump through a few Vista hoops to get the permissions right.
