So how did the music festival Saturday turn out?
Fun, for the most part! I mostly hung out with some folks from the slow jam, talking and playing a bit. The guy that runs the jam has a music store, so he had a booth set up with all kinds of stuff for sale, and a lot of us hung out in the near vicinity when we weren’t listening to the bands. I learned a cool new tune, too.
I would have liked to do more jamming, but when it got dark and people were playing out in the camping areas, I chickened out, because I didn’t know where the people I’d met were camping and I felt funny wandering around in the dark with a guitar, peering into groups of strangers. Next time, I’ll make sure I know where folks are going to be camping. Or get better about crashing the jams. ;-)
Of course, I’m also feeling pretty humbled, ‘cause although I think I’ve improved quite a bit in the past few months, I’m still very obviously a rank beginner when it comes to this style of music. On top of that, I tense up and can’t play worth doodly when I’m in front of people, so I looked like even more of a beginner. But it’ll come with time and practice, I know. Just frustrating at times.
I woke up yesterday with a horrible headache, I think partly due to tension (which continued during the drive home — driving in the dark scary!!) so I kind of laid low.
Slow jam next weekend...’nother (free!) festival the weekend after that...so I’ll get more practice!
