I guess I’m answering my own question in #3644 but there are Catholics who always vote Dem no matter what. A lot of my mother’s relatives are an example of that, despite the fact that many of them are as conservative as I am. It makes no sense.

Those Catholics who continue to vote Democrat, sometimes do so because of a long held tradition in their families. In the Northeast and the RustBelt, there are so many families who are of ethnic origins that were heavily Catholic, but also blue-collar, and therefore, heavily Union. Those folks have always believed that the Democrats were for the "little guy", and that the Republicans were for the business owners, so were against union workers. The other group of Catholics who consistently vote Democrat are those who have put the Social Justice issues above the Life issues. Again, they think that Republicans hate poor people, hate homosexuals, and love war, so they just won't vote for them. That's the Jesuit and Pax Christi influence

The abortion issue is the ONE issue that broke that Democrat Party lock on Catholic votes. Many Catholics will vote for a pro-life Democrat in a State or Congressional election, but won't vote Democrat in a Presidential election, because no pro-life Democrat can make it that far.
