When you get that bit of land, you’re gonna have to build yourself a ‘safe room’. When my sister and her husband were living in Tulsa several years ago, they were looking at houses, and the Realtor called them ‘fraidy rooms’. I can certainly see the wisdom in having one! If I were building one, I’d make the walls of it out of insulated concrete forms, either tied into the slab with rebar, if it’s new construction, or connected by strong bolts to an existing slab.
Heh, we had the tornado sirens go off the other night so we went down to the basement for a while. It’s nice to have that option.
I want a Jim Giles Safe Room. He was the meteorologist I liked so much that passed away about a year and a half ago. He set up this business right before he passed away and now his wife promotes it. She just says something like “Keep safe with a Jim Giles Safe Room” and is in partnership with the steel company that makes them.
