I have a SOCOM 16 and the SOCOM II (as well as a new SA M1A and a old TRW M1A built for me when in the service) and they are great ! The downside of the SOCOM II is the rail system that is super sharp. Too sharp......it alone is a great CQB tool if the person carrying the thing is wearing gloves. I have decided to leave the SOCOM 16 w/o optics. Stone cold stock with exception of a sling.
BTW what is your brand of mags ....I have bought nothing but SA factory mags since retirement. I have about 30 of the GI issue mags of unknown manufacturer. All flawless thus far.
Anything mag wise cheaper and more or as reliable ?
The Fulton Armory has a page with everything you'd want to know about M14 magazines. It even gives manufacturing codes for the GI magazines.
The bottom line a decent magazine will cost you $30 and up. But at least you can avoid the chicom crap.
I think I saw a few M14 magazines in a deep, dark corner of the basement a few years ago. I hope I can find them again, now that I have a use for them.
Yep agree on the chicom cow crap........never had one given or sold too me albeit my gunrunner wanted me to buy one too try. I told him I’d “take” a free one to test for him .......:o)
He said no he was selling em.....I said I wasn’t buying em as I already knew the answer. LOL !
Thanks for the Magazine data link . Let me know if ya ever locate an extra brookfield scope mount for a M1A.....:o)
My company gave me a Blackberry 8330 this afternoon and I am trying to transfer data off a motorola razr. Crappy software from BB.......not a happy camper. Gonna do it on company time monday . They can soak up the lost hours vs my time off.
Any one know a neat crackberry trick or have a few links I would be grateful.
I was right proud of how he acted yesterday. He literally thought when we walked into the room it was too late. Cancelled a date and everything to spend time with family.
Great pictures. When I first went over there I thought the butterfly pictures were yours. That’s pretty cool.
Yeah - they are cool! We don’t have big butterflies here.
We have like maybe...one...
That is niiiice.
So we went by the gun shop to get ammo for our range trip yesterday and the owner was talking to us about how we want to get CCW permits and basically convinced us that we should go ahead and get them now (in Iowa, it goes by county. Our current sheriff is a jerk who will give you one if you say you regularly carry $500 in cash, and write “only valid when carrying $500 or more in cash” on the permit) We were planning to wait until after the new sheriff is elected but the gun store folks promised us that either of the new candidates will fix that.
So the problem became what do I want to use to qualify? The county test is really strict, involves a target at 25 yards which is way farther than I usually shoot. Talon’s got a couple .45s but I don’t like them. My XD40 and the 380 are not full size and so are not as accurate. We mentioned that to the gun shop owner and he went off to the back room and came back with his 9mm glock and said here, borrow this. We went to the range and shot two boxes of 9mm. I liked the gun a lot, but the grip is a little wrong for me so we’re going to see about getting me a different 9mm.
And ordering Talon an AR15 to match mine too. The gun shop guy says they’re taking between 8 and 16 weeks right now so anyone who’s looking for one should order - the wait’s only going to get worse before November.
Got to love a store with nice service. Apparently since we got Jen’s AR they had a running bet between the owner and the counter gal that we would be back in to spend our ‘stimulus check’ on an AR for me. Heh.
So now a full size 9mm is the top of our by lists. The ones in the main running are an XD and a S&W M&P. Will probably look at other things though. The criteria are light, and a grip she likes.
Heya - just back from the cabin. We froze our tootsies off! Happy Mother’s Day
Okay here....for the most part.
We have no phone service, again, and this is the first time we’ve been able to connect to the internet all day. Outside of that, we’re fine.
I had a very nice surprise today. SirKit had said he needed to pick up something he'd bought on eBay, and that it was over toward Boston, so since it was a nice day, he suggested we ride over together, after Mass. I was gonna throw some chili in the crock pot so we'd have supper ready when we got back home. They told me they'd decided to stop on the way and have some lunch, so I didn't need to make any supper, since we'd likely be pretty full. So we drove on over, and they pull up to the Barking Crab, a crab shack restaurant on Boston Harbor. We walked in, and there was our oldest son, Paul, and his girlfriend, Sarah and her parents and younger brother! They'd planned all this, and surprised Maiza (Sarah's mom) and me, for Mother's Day, and greeted us each with a pretty bouquet of flowers. We were totally clueless!
But man was that food good. We had boiled shrimp, snow, and King crab, calamari, and Paul and I shared a fish and chips. And of course several pitchers of beer! We had a wonderful time, and a fun visit. Sarah's parents are emigrees from Brazil, and are just as nice as they can be! Sarah graduates from Law School next weekend, and Maiza invited us to her graduation party the weekend after that.
After lunch, we went across the street and walked on the esplanade in front of the Federal Courthouse, that sits on prime harborfront property. It was beautiful, except a tad chilly, right next to the water! But we had a nice walk to work off some of the lunch!. I'm fixing to go take a nap now; all that sunshine made me sleepy!
Happy Mother’s Day (and to all the HH Moms)
I’ve been sleeping off the Mother’s Day brunch sleepies and just general exhaustion from the weekend.
Nana remains much the same. All the siblings (and unfortunately ~all~ the spouses) made it in this weekend. Made for a few awkward times.
All this and Nana said she doesn’t want any drinking at her funeral. I told the Mrs. I wouldn’t drink at the church.
:-)
*snort* You'll just have to raise a glass for Nana, when you get back home. ;o)
