I’m sorry, that just went right over my head.

It might have come in a little lower if I could spell "remedial."

Tell ‘Not Valerie’ Happy Birthday!! When you get to the Japanese Steakhouse, of course, so she won’t know you’ve been thinking about it. ;o)

I suspect she suspects something is up. Jr. didn't tell the right lie.

A lot of turnips way past prime. :)

We have this “community garden” at werk and earlier in the season, I brought home a bunch of turnips. Of course I never got around to cooking and freezing all of it so they’ve got thriving mold colonies.

So far all the squash is still good. :) I’ll have to get it in the freezer this weekend.

I never liked turnips, after being made to eat them as a kid. No squash here but I have zucchini, close enough.

I’ve got zucchini and yellow squash.

Tonight I’m making squash lasagne. I also salvaged some lettuce and arugula so I’ll fix that too.

I’d rather have turnips than beets.

That energy film is darn good stuff! Did you take down the curtains, or are they just for winter? I’m staying in too, it’s just too darn hot to be enjoyable outside.

I’m really struggling with getting the old glue off the plaster walls in this one area of the entry hall. It has turned to this rubber cement-like substance that I can pull off with my fingers (in 1/8 inch strips) but if I try to use a wallpaper scraper it just destroys the outer plaster layer. I’m afraid to put on the primer-sealer til I get the glue off, but there is no way I’ll be able to get it all off. I’m in a quandry!!

I took the curtains down...they made going in and out a pain! I’m thinking of putting them up either in the den or on the sliding glass door between the dining room and thesunroom.

I’ll see if I can find something about getting glue off of plaster. I’ve never worked with anything on plaster before and the glue-on-drywall that I removed was more pasty/ gummy than rubbery.

I’m used to the gummy paste, I scraped off tons of it when we first bought the house, but this stuff really has me baffled. This is the wallpaper on which I had to use full-strength Greased Lightning and put plastic on top for 20-30 minutes before the wallpaper could be scraped off. The biggest problem areas are on either side of the stairs going up to the landing, and the first area I tackled before I discovered the Greased Lightning solution.

Think I’m going to go spray some GL on it and see if that dissolves it.

Tonight's Saturday Night Gun Pron [tm] is just a quick update on the DPMS 7.62.

The GG&G scope mount finally arrived!!! I felt like I just won the lottery.

For me, mounting a scope is a take-your-time, do-it-perfectly project. So for tonight's pictures, I just mounted the scope into the rings by guesstimate so I had an idea of how things would turn out.

Looking at the mount right out of the box, it looked like it would be a tad high for what I wanted. However, with the scope in the mount, and clamped to the rifle, there's only about 1/16 inch clearance between the front lens cover, and the handguard. It was not too high, after all.

I needed to add just a little height adjustment to the cheekpiece to bring the scope into my eye line. Also sort-of-visible in the photo is the "Uncle Mike's" type detachable front sling swivel, as opposed the vey QD pushbutton swivel like I had used on the M1A. This is one rifle I do not want hitting the ground.

I also got some M14-size mag pouches from Tactical Tailor in both double and single magazine sizes. The single-mag version, shown here, is a "soft side" version of the hard plastic M16 quick-grab single mag holder from a previous issue.

Annnnnddddd, I'm still waiting for the rest of my multi-color "jigsaw puzzle" rail covers from Magpul.

But those are all minor matters, while proper mounting of the scope is a major project, at least how I do it. Right now, I have the mount clamped on top of an M16 riser so I can more comfortably lap the rings.

The steel lap is coated with the equivalent of 800-grit valve grinding compound, and is slowly run through the rings until enough material is removed to indicate a 50-70% contact area with the lap. This insures the rings are perfectly aligned, and have enough contact area to hold the scope firmly, without applying stress on it.

Normally, this would be a 3-4 hour job, although with GG&G's reputation for precision, it may be a lot less. Still, I don't want to rush it because I find this kind of precision, fussy work to be peaceful and relaxing. After lapping will come squaring the crosshairs with the rifle, collimation, and an initial test firing at the 50-yard indoor range. I'll have to wait to get to an outdoor range to do the 200-yard zero I'm considering for this rifle.

Well, at least the DPMS is starting to look complete, even if it has lots of little details that need cleaning up.

Do you use clover or a Brownells or Midway product for your lapping compound..........?

I just use the Brownell's 800-grit compound that came with the lap. I've also made my own "micro lapping compound" out of the 8000-grit aluminum oxide I use with my knife strop, and some light machine oil. But that was just for lapping a couple of parts so they fit together better, not for scope rings.

Good deal...... I used too piss off folks taking so much care and time doing such for firearms that they wanted that peformed like mine. I’d tell em 30 days and they say Huh ??

That is a great looking rig BTW ! Pretty much a Mk-11 Clone per my view of the picture. Well done project !

Muslims, somewhere, are offended.

I'm offended that there are people who think that kind of situation is just fantastic. But that's mostly because I'm still sour after having to go to Detroitistan this week. *sigh*
