The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

We’ve got a trace of water in the basement because I think we lost power earlier and the sump pump went out. If it goes again we’ll have to get a generator.

We’ve got lots of bottled water and I can’t see any risk of a real flood here. We’re way far from the river and a good ways from the nearest creek too.

Just a post-Isabel thought. If you can swing it, get the generator now...I’m just sayin’...

I’ll second Corin’s suggestion about getting a Generator now. They’re likely to be all sold out, when you end up needing one right away. If you can swing a 12K watt model, you could run the whole house, A/C and all. We have a Guardian model that can use either Nat. Gas or Propane. We had a coupon from HD year before last, so we took advantange of that. Of course, it’s sitting in SirKit’s brother’s garage in MS right now, but we don’t really need one up here; we don’t have power outages often enough for it to matter. I’m sure we’ll be needing it more when we move South.

Okay, two important questions:

1)why is my schefflera losing leaves (and how do I fix it)?

and

2)how to you teach a dog to pass gas in the other room?

Both are somewhat urgent.

Shove the dog out the back door and ventilate the room.

1) Are you watering too much, or not enough? Check undersides of leaves for critters.
2) Yer on yer own. ;o)

We’ve got three Iowans in our section at work. They have been watching the NOAA website, it gives projected water levels. It’s showing you got about another 3 feet to go before the crest on the Cedar. 6pm showed 29.5 feet. Two of them are heading up to Iowa tomorrow.

No thunder or rain yet. My weather glass is a third of the way up the spout.

Thunder in the distance and the sirens have started.

Well...it goes up when there’s low pressure and down when it’s high. I’ll keep an eye on it as the storm gets closer.

They’re predicting it at 32 feet now. That’s twelve feet higher than it has ever been. Ever.

1) Schefflera is a funny name for a plant
2) I dunno, but if you figure it out, let me know.

One more werkin’ day and then I’m off to Tennessee for a week...

Is anyone else having trouble getting to Yahoo from Comcast, or am I just lucky?
