The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

We got her! We got the momma cat!

Woo-hoo! Good for you!

I have my doubts that she can ever be tamed - these are most definitely feral cats and not just strays - but at least she won't be producing *more* feral cats...

Not great that the sister cat also appears to have kittens somewhere, though. :-\ Wonder where she's hiding them.

Rode to work again. And fell again. I are a moron. I have one spot where I have to cross a fairly big road. The trail kinda just ends at the road and starts up again on the other side and down a way, and until recently, there wasn’t a crosswalk or anything there, either - you just had to wait for a gap in the (busy) traffic and run for it.

Now there’s a new crosswalk with some flashy thingies that are activated when someone wants to cross...but said flashy thingies aren’t visible to pedestrians / bicyclists, so you kinda just have to watch for when the cars stop. And the whole thing just flustered me and made me want to get going.

When I got across to the other side, there was a guy mowing by the sidewalk, who stopped the mower to let me by, which further flustered me, ‘cause he didn’t have to do that. When I turned to thank him, my tire went into the space between the edge of the sidewalk and the grass and I went down right in front of him, leaving him wondering what he did. I just told him, “You didn’t see that, OK?” and went on.

And then I locked myself out on the roof at work...but that’s another story.

Are you sure you aren’t related to Corin?

One of the guys at National Review posted that he WALKED from the middle of Long Island to Manhattan (30 miles). He thought it was a guy thing!

Umkay...that’s a long way!

Longest walk I’ve done in a day was maybe twelve miles. I’m a piker.

But I did ride 12.5 miles so far today...

I think that I will cede your superiority in this competition, all things considered!

As a lawnmowerer, I always stop the lawnmower when someone walks or rides by, just on the off-chance that the spinning blades might pick up something and hit the passerby. As a pedestrian, I always appreciate a conscientious lawnmowerer.

Hey now, she’s got every right to be surly... she’s been put in a cage for doing no more than what comes naturally.

She’s at the vets now, cursing my name, and everyone else in the room.

How did the trip go? Was it pretty ugly?

How exactly do they get her out of the cage without serious injury? Or will they sedate her before even trying?

That walk was a 20km Volksmarch in Germany that I did with a friend.

We were beat, but kinda proud of ourselves for finishing in a pretty good time. We met up with some other friends for dinner, and no one else was impressed at all. They didn’t seem to comprehend the distance involved since it’s not *that* far in a car. Kinda depressing. ;-)

She was reasonably subdued in the cage, she wasn’t bouncing off the sides or panicking or anything.

They give her the sedative right through the cage, so they never handle her at all awake. That’s why they won’t even accept ferals in a crate or cat carrier, only in a trap. Interesting.

I’m going to prepare the spare bedroom now for the kittens to live back there, and at least for starters I’m going to put her in the big dog crate they’ve been in, back there. If she seems like she’s willing, she can be reunited with them in the spare bedroom. She may even still be lactating.

And at the pleading by the clinic, I called Concern for Animals, and they’re going to cover half the cost of the spay and the shots, and will cover half the cost of Sister #1 and all the kittens too when the time comes. I told her we’d return the favor with a donation back when we could, but appreciated the help now since there’s more than one to manage.

Well if Mama Cat gets back with her babies we’ll want some pictures of that too.

Certainly. :~) The concern for animals lady seemed to think she’d probably take them back. And it may help settle her down.

*Ahem*

At least Corin has the good sense to know better than to even attempt biking to work.

I'm just sayin' is all...
