The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

But I’m hearing all these songs from when I was a kid and a teenager and I’m getting a little fahklempt...

SirKit and Joseph went by the library the other day to pick up a video game for Joseph, and he came home with the "Summer of Love", CD Box set. It is just AWESOME!! I've already told them I want it for Mother's Day. I'm planning to take it to MS with me for the Cousin Reunion. That's all the music we grew up with. Debbie and I were 14 in 1967, and Joanne and Merni were 13. We were SO into the music on the radio then, and know all these songs by heart! We'll be boogieing the entire weekend!

Just back from our first bike ride of the season! Kept it short, 7 miles, and my elbows are yelling at me... heh...

I came this close -><- to riding to work this morning. Had my clothes and lunch laid out and everything. But it was chilly, and I need to finish mowing when I get home, and I know it’s gonna take me twice as long for awhile...

But it’s definitely bike season again! Even if it is gonna be in the 30s in the mornings for the rest of the week. :-\

30s??? In May? That's just unacceptable.

Well, we’re back (on line, that is) the phone guy showed up and replaced a bunch of parts in the outside phone box. Still didn’t work so he checked the line. The repair/splice from 2002 ice storm had worn through and was it was shorting out against the tree. Just goes to show you with the dialup/dsl connection always check the outside box before enduring ‘the call center’ on your cell phone. Wow, does that burn up the minutes. They sure have a long complex decision tree/matrix. Phone works, iternet works, 70 degrees, bunnies bounding through the yard..life’s good.

Yah...well...I’d agree with you there.

The planning committee didn’t consult me. ;-)

OK, off to bed. Been up since five-thirty and I'm supposed to get to work by not much after six. Server stuff again. Whoopee.

Yeah, I’ve seen it. It’s funny, but sacrilegious at the same time.

All this pen talk is making me miss my Rapidographs. I still have them but I pretty much wore them out years ago and was never able to get them reliable again. If I ever get back into drawing I will have to get another set. My Uncle gave me a set of 4 for Christmas one year and it was one of the best and most used gifts I have ever received.

My brother uses those, I think - he does graphic design work, among other art.

I want a new dip pen and a decent selection of nibs. A lot of mine ended up rusty and ruined. :-\ It’d be nice if we had a good art store nearby, like the one we had in Fort Collins. That was a really nifty place...all sorts of sketch pads and books, different kinds of ink and paint and pencils and pens...

Nice.

We should have an ArtMoot...or a craft moot...

We gather for “The Hobbit” and everyone brings something they’ve been working on.

I use to do graphic design and illustration back in highschool and used them heavily for that.

We use to have a DickBlicks here but they closed and now the nearest is a half hour away. That does not seem like far but since it is a whole city and county away it seems farther. I still have a good set of art markers but I never use them. A tragic hard drive crash years ago too out a project I had been working on and did near mortal damage to my drawing muse. Maybe someday...

We would just have to be sure of where we did it. Got to know that whatever 300win brings is legal there ;-D
