Linux visionary convicted of murder

Excerpt -
Linux visionary Hans Reiser has been convicted of first-degree murder for killing his estranged wife in 2006 and faces life imprisonment. Reiser, founder of Namesys which develops the Linux-based Reiser file systems, was charged with the deliberate and premeditated murder of Nina Reiser by an Oakland, California courthouse after an almost six-month trial.
The fate of the troubled ReiserFS and Reiser4 file systems may be sealed, following media reports that Namesys has ceased commercial activity and the rapid loss of support for the latter system in the open source community.
ReiserFS was the first journaling file system included in the Linux kernel and is the default system for a number of distributions including Elive, Linspire, and Xandros.

Well son of a gun.
... though a headline of "Linux visionary ... murder ..." is a bit of a gratuitous swipe at Linux.
It's not like Linux has much to do one way or the other with Hans Reiser's downfall, other than that's what he happened to work on.

Do you honestly believe if Bill Gates was convicted of murder that the word Microsoft wouldn’t be included in an article describing same?
To: ThePythonicCow
It doesn’t seem like a gratuitous swipe to me. When a person already slightly publicly known does something unrelated, it’s not uncalled-for to note that when describing them for the first time in the article. If it were Bill Gates, it would probably be “Microsoft founder Bill Gates convicted of murder”...or maybe not; in his case he’s SO well known that no explanation might be thought necessary.

“Linux...convicted of murder”
Thanks for today’s “eye-tee” news, MS “software engineers.”
[Little facetiousness there. The MS-Linux rivalry is funny from the perspective of a *BSD multi-platform development perch.]

Good point ... though exceptions will be made, such as for Democrat party leaders.

Maybe it’s time for someone to start a “Thug Linux” distribution.
[Little sardonic humor there.]

His new computer will run MySQL. ...but it now stands for My San Quentin Linux.

(Doffs hat.) A moment of respect for a headline of genius. And no, I wouldn’t post it here. ;-)

Maybe it would be: “District Attorney fired for charging Bill Gates with murder”.
To: dighton
For the record, and for those who aren't computer file system nerds, that
Ars Technica headline is:
Hans Reiser is fscked: jury delivers guilty verdict
This is a play on words familiar to Linux and Unix file system hackers. The program
fsck (stands for "file system checker") is a program used to find and fix errors in the file system. Reisers primary contribution to Linux software was a particular file system, called the Reiser File System. It is common for Linux file system hackers (and those who have to have to clean up confused file systems after them) to spell the four letter "f***' word as 'fsck' in informal written communications. So this is an entirely appropriate epitaph for Mr. Hans Reiser.

Why not -- fsck is a perfectly fine Linux and Unix utility?

It wouldn't be a headline otherwise.
Well, some sources (see my
Post #7 above) found a way to make a headline that named Reiser, not Linux. Indeed, it seems that the sources for general audiences, such as the AP and a couple of newspapers, saw the least need to explain Reisers occupation.

well, if you don't have enough to be distraught about in life, I guess this is perfect.
Anyway, the real news will be when the Java crew walls itself in in some compound somewhere and drinks kool-aid. That's gonne be ugly.
