Well son of a gun.

... though a headline of "Linux visionary ... murder ..." is a bit of a gratuitous swipe at Linux.

It's not like Linux has much to do one way or the other with Hans Reiser's downfall, other than that's what he happened to work on.

“Linux...convicted of murder”

Thanks for today’s “eye-tee” news, MS “software engineers.”

[Little facetiousness there. The MS-Linux rivalry is funny from the perspective of a *BSD multi-platform development perch.]

Well, he’ll have lots of time to do development work...

He must have done his development work in an Agile environment.

SF COMICAL: "Reiser, who faces 25 years to life in prison"

The poor baby will be out in 7 1/2 years, which is, as I recall, the average in this Paradise for murder one, while the media continues to feed us horse manure about "25 years to life".

I told my husband that maybe if he was lucky, Reiser might be out by the time Zesty Zebra debuts.

The fate of the troubled ReiserFS and Reiser4 file systems may be sealed, following media reports that Namesys has ceased commercial activity and the rapid loss of support for the latter system in the open source community.

I don't understand. Not being a Linux weenie somebody help me out here.

Why does his conviction "seal the fate" of ReiserFS and Reiser4? Is there another popular journaling FS out there?

It’s a good thing for him he’s in CA. Being a liberal state, the jury isn’t likely to sentence him to a kill 9.

Before the murder, ReiserFS was a common choice in Linux installations (SUSE, Fedora, among others). Afterwards, ext3 was the default choice.
