What happened to Pookie's Toons?
Why so defensive? Can’t people here have a simple conversation without the mods butting in and flooding the lousy thread with repetitive comments? Someone simply asked where Pookie’s Toons was. The next thing you know the thread is hijacked by the mods to justify their actions. Can we just stop this nonsense already? Leave it be.
We'll keep repeating the core issue here - copyright restrictions and the legal problem posters who flaunt such represent to the health of FR - as long as it takes for certain persons to finally get the point.
Or maybe you just want to bash the volunteer FR mods without us having the opportunity to present our side of the story. Well, there are plenty of places for that.
So tell us, then - what would you do with a poster who refused to adhere to copyright restrictions? And who made a big stink over moderator requests that they do adhere to such?
We did not ban anyone. We simply took the necessary steps to protect FR from legal jeopardy. And for that, we get a raft of nonsense. For doing a volunteer job.
I get it, the Freepathon is just to keep you guys in Beer and Pizza.
Really, It's a thankless job.
Except the beermeister in the mod lounge is busted and the pizza delivery guy never shows up because it's in a seedy neighborhood.
Other than that, the bennies are great.
What is the mod's name that you keep referring to? You're throwing mud at someone who can't defend themself because none of the mods know who in the heck you're talking about.
All the mods have been freeping for years and we are allowed to freep using our own names. Being a mod does not mean we can't freep and when we do freep, we're not trying to fool anyone. We've all been freepers much longer than we've been mods.

No threat - just saying there are plenty of places on the Internet where folks can rip into the FR moderators without having them respond back.
But FR is not one of those places, for some strange reason.
I’m not a Dude, and I’ve been a member and donor to FR since 1997. This thread didn’t need to be taken in this direction, but it was...by the mods.
I don’t really know Pookie or the fight in question but speaking as someone who got a one year ban (thus I doubt anyone would confuse me with a moderator).
I think you’re reply was quite reasonable and explained to me precisely FR’s position.

There is a fair amount of what moderators do that is a judgement call. Is a post a personal attack? Was it provoked? Is a comment racist or just non-PC?
But copyright and excerpt issues do not fall into that category. They are black and white. For posters to get after the moderators for enforcing requests from media sources regarding what is allowed on FR is wrongheaded. To complain about a mod posting under their real screen name to back up what should be blatantly obvious about copyright restrictions is wrongheaded as well. But apparently a few people seem to think that FR should flaunt excerpt requests. If they want to pony up the legal fees up front, hey, go for it. Until then, the FR policy stands. And for damn good reason.
Ok, thanks for clarifying that. But I have a question. Why do the mods feel it necessary to even comment in a thread like this? The job is to moderate right? Not get involved in the discussions taking place? I didn't feel that the comments made on this thread were of the nature that would require the mods to take notice.

And the mods GREATLY appreciate posters who mash abuse to help prevent lawsuits - such as finding that Getty image in reply 1,145. That exceeds the attention span of the average sidebar moderator by 1,140 posts.
They’re the only ones who can, so.....
There was a lot of gnashing of teeth and caterwauling over this issue. Some people tried to claim it was personal or capricious or arbitrary. It was not. This is about pure legal CYA for FR. And quite frankly, the mods are puzzled that a few people (not you) are having trouble with that underlying concept.
