I've lived in Northern CA almost all my life, and that's one of the ways I can tell if someone I meet is originally from down south." Interesting....I've met people in both Oregon and Washington who also used, "the #" and assumed it was a left coast thing...unbeknownst to me they may have been transplants.

Well, I couldn't absolutely swear that people in Washington and Oregon don't ever do that, although I've spent a fair amount of time there and never heard it. I can only swear that Northern Californians don't do it. With all of the people fleeing LA, though, who knows, maybe it's spreading.
