On average, in MN.......$5
It depends on the state and local taxes but I’m paying about $3.50 a pack for super cheap cigs. Name brands can run over $4.50 a pack. I understand that MO is one of the cheapest places to get cigs. There are signs on the highway when you cross into IL warning of fines and imprisonment for “ciggarette smuggling”. My prefered brand is Lucky Strike non-filter but they are about $40.00 a carton at the discount places. My sister pays around $7.00 a pack for name brand where she lives in Maine.
In Chicagotaxland, they’re about $6.00/pack.
NJ, depending on brand, around $6.75. Yes, wife and I quit, primarily for this reason.
My wife smokes. It is THE one thing I despise in our marriage, but I knew it going in. Marlboro Ultra Light 100s (a female cigarette if there ever was one) average $4.50 a pack here in Columbus.
With coupons obtained online and a little local searching $3.49 a pack in my area (Cleveland).
I switched to King Edward Little Cigars.
They are less than $1.00 a pack buying them by the carton.
> I was just reading an article that referenced “sin taxes” cigarettes being one...Well, Many years ago, I used to smoke..and the last time I bought a pack of cigarettes, they cost $1.50 a pack. I was wondering if anyone knew offhand, what they are currently going for?
In New Zealand, $12.70 last time I checked.
The local (WI) Kwik Trip, which has the “lowest legal prices”, has prices around $4.20 for a pack on their signs.
$4.60-something in Wisconsin.
In Virginia, prices vary depending where you are. I pay $4.50 per pack currently.
$20. and change for a carton of Kingsport filter in a box.
FWIW: I can pick up a pack of Korean (Life) cigarettes for about $2.00. The military got me hooked on them and I paid ten cents a pack for unfiltered Camels/Ninety Cents for a carton. Smoked them for 50 + years and quit 4 years ago.
Yeeeouch! Looks like it was a good thing for my wallet as well as my health that I quit when I did. At about 5 pks a week, it boggles my mind the amount of money I would have spent over the last 15 years, over and above the $1.50pk I was paying.
Sure hope I spent my savings well. ;o)
And, my Australian friend...Was that in USD? Cherish those smokes mate...or maybe it’s time to start chewing gum. :)
Fortunately I kicked that habit a few years back, which BTW was the hardest thing I ever did in my life.
Here in the midwest, they are around $4 a pack. Haven’t seen $1.50 since the mid 90s.
Stuff my own cigarette tubes. Total cost = $0.69 pack.
