In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
stygian \STIJ-ee-un\ adjective, (often capitalized)
1. of or relating to the river Styx
2. extremely dark, gloomy, or forbidding *
Example sentence:
When the power went out in the building, the halls and stairwells were plunged into stygian darkness.
Did you know?
"Stygian" comes to us (by way of Latin "stygius" and Greek "stygios") from "Styx," the name of the principal river in Hades, the underworld of the dead in Greek mythology. This is the river over which Charon the boatman was said to ferry the spirits of the dead; the Greeks and Romans would place a coin in the mouth or hand of the deceased to serve as fare. It is also the river by which the gods swore their most binding oaths, according to the epics of Homer. English speakers have been using "stygian" to mean "of or relating to the river Styx" since the early 16th century. From there the meaning broadened to describe things that are as dark, dreary, and menacing as one might imagine Hades and the river Styx to be.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

The weather is worsening-too damp to paint, so I’m home early working on bids-
If Hillary looses the race
To be the anointed nominee
Will she try to steal it
Even though it won’t be free?
The atmosphere is so stygian
In certain parts of her camp
I’m sure her minions wish
Someone would light a lamp
How many of those millions
X42 supposedly earned
Will he pay for a third term
And seeing Obama get burned
Please add me to the WFTD ping list. Thank you!!

“Angels and Demons” was a prequel to “Da Vinci Code” and involved a murdered Pope who had fathered a child and rogue Illuminati murdering Cardinals who were replacement Papal candidates.

I thought it was a good read but very anti-Catholic.
antiCatholic and even anti-organized religion. i read all of his books and pretty much found them all that way.
ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN? Yes. Interestingly, if you ask three people what it means to be Christian, you will get three different answers. Some feel being baptized is sufficient. Others feel you must accept the Bible as absolute historical fact. Still others require a belief that all those who do not accept Christ as their personal savior are doomed to hell. Faith is a continuum, and we each fall on that line where we may. By attempting to rigidly classify ethereal concepts like faith, we end up debating semantics to the point where we entirely miss the obvious--that is, that we are all trying to decipher life's big mysteries, and we're each following our own paths of enlightenment. I consider myself a student of many religions. The more I learn, the more questions I have. For me, the spiritual quest will be a life-long work in progress.
Sounds like a Unitarian to me.
IOW being a christian is whatever i saw it is to me, and then i can say i am one. RIGHT.
One month from today my baby graduates from College! I can’t believe it - of course then she starts round two for the second degree.
