Hi, I'm Nick and I am from Illinois. I'm writing on this page because I have been brought up to be very liberal on every issue dominating the upcoming presidential election. I feel like I kind of been brain washed into thinking this way and have this image of every right-winged supporter to be a redneck, gun crazy racist. Now I know that this is sure as hell not the truth, but the real truth for me is that I really do find it hard to agree with a lot of Republican ideals especially when dealing with illegal immigration and abortion. What I'm asking is for somebody to give me some things that you feel are very positive contributions the GOP makes for our govt. I hate the idea that I'm prejidice against right-winged ideals but I would like to have some direct input from somebody who is conservative and why they choose to be.
Or the other option is just to tear me apart for being a northern liberal...either one i guess is gonna happen haha

you ask that question and unfortunately i know very little about the circumstances to it.
The truth is a rare commodity. Look up the definition of a commodity. The truth doesn't fall in your lap, you have to go through the process.
A conservative usually has a reason for what he thinks, not guided totally by feelings.
Ok, let's begin with this one. Examine the words you used here. Words are important. They mean specific things. They do not morph meaning based upon intent.
You used two words in particular that used seperately should give you pause.
First, you used the word "immigrant". The word "immigrant" simply means a person who moves from one place to another.
Almost everyone in the U.S. is an immigrant, even at a localized level, so immigration is no problem for 90% of Conservative.
Second, you used the word "illegal". The word "illegal" simply means doing something outside of the bounds of the law.
Now let's seperate that from the word "immigrant" and attach it to another word. Let's say the word "entry".
Would you feel comfortable letting someone have "illegal entry" into your house? What if they just broke in to eat a sandwich because they were hungry and while they were there they cleaned your dishes and fell asleep on your sofa watching your TV?
Would you say, "Oh, that's no big deal. They just wanted a sandwich and they did the dishes I didn't want to do anyway and there is plenty of room on my sofa."
Or would you yell and scream at them for being in your house and call the police?
Let's say you did what we all know you would do and yell and scream and call the police. And then let's say that your neighbor called you a racist and a greedy, hateful person for doing so.
Doesn't sound fair, does it? And all because of that little word "illegal".
Illegal immigrants are breaking the law by being "illegal" immigrants. Just like a burglar is breaking the law by "illegal" entry.
So that is lesson number one. Words mean specific things.
Four points. Read Carefully.
1. Not all Republicans are conservatives.
2. Get out of Illinois and go visit your own country.
3. It's up to you to do your own research, come to your own conclusions and do your homework.
4. A bunch of fine people have served, suffered and died for your rights. Remember them first, foremost and always.

I want to cut to the chase on this, so I'll reply with some questions...we have a system of borders in place to control who comes in, who stays, and how long they can be here.
1) Do you see the need for such a system? (I'll assume yes for the next questions)
2) Do we have the right to impose such a system?
3) If you support more immigration than currently allowed, how much more, and from where? Does where matter?
4) How much pent up demand is there for immigration? IE, if we had no rules, how many people would come?
5) What basis/framework do we use for deciding questions like this?
6) What requirements, if any, should be placed upon these immigrants?
7) What is the danger, if any, in selective enforcement of laws?
Isn’t a kind of cool part of being in America is that people flock here from all over the world for a better life?
Undisputably. I think we're the coolest place on the planet to live. Another question for you...why is America such a cool place to live? What is it about America that makes it so, and what is it about Americans that makes America the way it is?
and my biggest question is if economically Canada and Mexico switched roles...do you think this would be such a big of deal?
If you're asking if conservatives have a problem with brown people, the answer is no. There may be some who call themselves conservatives who don't want "furriners" here for reasons of racial purity, but that's not a conservative viewpoint. Jeb Bush, for example, is married to an Hispanic.
But let's be clear...for Canada and Mexico to trade places, Canada would have to become a Third-world country with no tradition of rule of law, or democracy...and speak a different language than us.
BTW...I believe there's an ironclad relationship between rule of law, and prosperity...and freedom. Would you agree?
If you answer those questions, I think we can cut to the chase...and by answering those questions, you will have hopefully provided some context for my answers. You will also understand that I think you have to look at this issue (and any issue) in a very detailed way...which is a trait, IMO, of a conservative.

i don’t get your statement. You seem to think that I agree with schools taking girls out and taking them to clinics. I don’t. What I was asking was on an educational level, what have liberals done to screw things up?
You may not have noticed that “Nick” isn’t answering questions, just asking them and showing no indication he understands our answers. He’s talking around us, and that’s why I’ve come to the conclusion he’s a troll. I’ve had these discussions before, and I see the handwriting on the wall.
wow, i had no clue about the health care benefit. I also didn’t take into account about the two jobs thing. One job can turn around a life and it might be ruining an actual citizens. The health care can also put a counter strain on the family and maybe have the hard worker suffer more.
i apologize for the loaded questions and looking back at them they do seem loaded. Just one of the posts on here said that the FR does not stand for feminism and I was just wondering why?
I do have a better understanding on the take of gun control. I think liberals tend to look more at the “thug culture” and glorified gang wars rather than the actual “gun culture” which is usually for having guns for more responsible reasons. Knowing the possibility that this home could have a gun will make a intruder think twice before assaulting an home.
Yes I do agree that Canada and Mexico are defintely not the same thing at all. Just a lot of things I read and see always seem to have some racial undertone. Putting up a giant wall on our southern boarder seems a little extreme to me. It could end up being a Berlin Wall look a like. But couldn’t that money used on the be put towards other domestic problems? Like toward our schools maybe?

If by "feminism" you mean that women are treated equally under the law, then I don't think you will find much argument with that.
If by "feminism" you mean that women should be treated better than men under the law, then I think you will find a whole lot of disagreement.
Since most self described "feminists" mean the second description, that is why you will often see the bristles go up when someone tries to champion "feminism".
