I was told and (thats my only proof) that the little Eastern bluebirds will not build in anything but a ‘bluebird’ house! I am worried....didn’t see them yesterday! The people two houses down have a cat and my next door neighbor said the cat stays out there close to my birdhouse. I asked her to chase it off and she said she does everytime she sees it! She loves to watch the bluebirds too! Oh, well, I’ll be out working today and I will keep my eyes open!

How close did you have to get to get such a great pic. of your bird...zoom lens?

I was about ten or twelve feet away, zoomed in. I took it with my new digital Canon PowerShot A720 IS 'point and shoot' that my husband ordered for me. I LOVE it! I think it is going to be a great replacement for my old Fuji FinePix. I haven't had a lot of time to experiment with it yet, but it is supposed to have real good macro capabilities and I love taking close-ups of flowers and insects and dew drops. This is going to be fun when I have time to play with it.

I went out to check on my birds this morning. Mama is on the nest and Papa is tending to mama by bringing her food....(I may have the genders mixed up. Still can't tell who's who or which is which, but I am assuming that "mama" is sitting on the nest). I don't know when she laid her eggs, so I don't know how much longer until we have hatchlings. But it shouldn't be too much longer. I will be taking more photos after the babies emerge.

Well, I sure hope your bluebirds are okay. I try to remember that in God's plan it is ‘survival of the fittest’ in the animal kingdom, but I hate to actually "see" it playing out in nature. It is hard not to interfere and protect the weak ones from the predators, isn't it? I know there is a “food chain” in nature, but I don’t want to witness it. :-(

I need to go and get some things done today. TTYL!

I do not know for sure but I find that in most species of birds, the male is the prettiest....don’t understand it but I am comparing redbirds and the Eastern bluebirds. The males are the prettiest of the two! Go figure!

Re: males being the prettiest in the bird world, that is usually the case. As far as my scrub jays go, they look identical, except one is a little bigger than the other. One is more gentle than the other too. When I hand out peanuts, the bigger one is very grabby and flys off in a hurry....no "thanks" or anything. The little one hops up and gently takes the peanut from my hand and then stands there and looks at me for awhile before flying off with it.

I would love for someone to tell he how to indentify the genders of my jays, but in all the research I've done, I can't find an answer.

When one looks at the so called “Hero” of today in Hollywood, Brad Pitt, Cloony, Penn, etc etc, they are nothing compared to the hero of my day: John Wayne, Heston, Jimmy Stewart, Gable, McQueen and I could go on and on. So evolution does exist. Hollywood is evolving downward.

I agree with you 100%! Good guys are leaving everyday! And there is no one out there to take their places. Hollywood sorta sucks these days! All of the movies made today are for liberals only. The more they make conservatives mad, the better ‘those wimps’ like it!
