I always boil the sugar and water mixture in the microwave because I only make one cup at a time..6 minutes on high boils it for three minutes....(older microwave)The pyrex 2 cup measuring cup is the perfect container and the spout means easy pour into the feeder..
When it gets hot I will being changing the feeder more often..and chasing ants away by using Vaseline on the hook and top of the feeder.

I changed feeders late this afternoon and my Ruby Throat was seen feeding..I love having it close to the sliding door.
MB..The feeder for your MIL is such a thoughtful gift!

Well, that's an interesting solution to the ant problem. I never would have thought of that!

I wonder if Vaseline would be a solution for the ground squirrel population stealing all of our almonds before they are ready to harvest.

Lori, I Loved Seeing your Pic of the Nesting Jay, and I'm Joyful because a Female Phoebe has Laid Eggs in the Old Barn Swallow Nest on my Back Porch! Last Year, the Phoebe Couple Raised 2 Families, so I'm Looking Forward to this Spring Very Much. I Hope I can Get a Pic, but Everytime I Walk Up, she Flies Off the Nest. :(
