Words Of Life
Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. —John 6:68

In his book Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business, Neil Postman warns us of the danger of a world of information overload. He reminds us of a chilling futuristic vision—Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, which describes a world thoroughly flooded with information. But that data is manipulated so that none of it has any significance.

A glance at the Internet or a magazine rack hints that we are living in just such a culture. We're drowning in a sea of information often marketed by the unscrupulous. We need discernment to choose wisely whom we will listen to.

In John 6, Jesus delivered His "I am the bread of life" message (v.35). It was a sermon so controversial that, at its conclusion, many of His followers went away and stopped following Him (v.66). They chose to stop listening to the voice of Christ. When Jesus challenged His disciples as to whether they would also walk away, Peter wisely responded, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (v.68).

In a world swamped with confusing and contradictory information, we can, like Peter, turn to Christ for wisdom. He cuts through the words of confusion with words of life.  — Bill Crowder

There's so much wisdom to be learned,
So many ways for me to grow,
Lord, I would listen like a child,
And learn what You would have me know. —K. De Haan

If you want to be wise, listen to Jesus.

Love the bluebird picture, MamaB! Here’s a little poem for you, written by James Whitcomb Riley, my favorite poet:

The First Bluebird

Jest rain and snow! and rain again!
And dribble! drip! and blow!
Then snow! and thaw! and slush! and then
Some more rain and snow!

This morning I was’most afeard
To wake upwhen, I jing!
I seen the sun shine out and heerd
The first bluebird of Spring!

Mother she’d raised the winder some;
And in acrost the orchurd come,
Soft as a angel’s wing,
A breezy, treesy, beesy hum,
Too sweet fer anything!

The winter’s shroud was rent a-part
The sun bust forth in glee,
And when that bluebird sung, my hart
Hopped out o’ bed with me!

Here is the sound of the Western Bluebird call:

GG, dinner will be at 5pm. Think I’ll make a cheesy broccoli casserole to go with it. (Or garlic sauteed green beans.)

Sorry it’s a rainy day - but here’s your chance to chat with all of us, today! Hope your day goes well!

Thank you so much for your trip ‘diary’ and the great pictures. I am going to save that post to read again, when it is over 100 here in the high desert!

I had no idea it got over 70 degrees. I lived high in the Rocky Mountains for several years, and it would get -50 minus 50 degrees) every winter, and stay that cold for a couple weeks (night time only). There were only seven to ten days of ‘summer’, when the temperature would go above freezing. LOL!

Objectively speaking (I can do that, because I’m not the grandpa), that is one beautiful little girl! Congratulations, Grandpa! I love the generation old lamb, and the Easter grass! What a memory!

MamaB, those are two handsome lads, and one beautiful lady! Time passes so fast - one day they are babies, you blink - and they are all grown up. Thank you for sharing your ‘babies’ with us. ;-)

‘Dita, were you able to save the hummingbird nest? I have only one. Gave the second one I ever found to a dear friend in Hawaii for her birthday. (She had spent years looking for one.)

I have one small antique ‘hutch’ in my foyer, and every shelf has nests from many different birds. There’s a couple pair of small antique binoculars, too.

Every time I walk in my house, that is the first thing I see. Each nest represents the ‘beginning’, ‘sanctuary’, safety’, ‘home’, and ‘love’.

Yep. The IRS. Kinda takes the ‘beauty’ out of spring, eh? (At least until we get them filed.) I like to do mine early, and get them out of the way so I can enjoy the budding life outdoors. Didn’t make it this year until last week. :-(

Thanks for an objective opinion. She is growing so fast. But I know my judgement on her is a little prejudiced.

Her little face shows more expression, I think, than most babies her age.

She is very animated. When she was 1 day old I took this picture.

What are you looking at?

Hadley’s mom, my daughter, was the same way. She was walking at 8 months, potty trained herself before she was a year old, and spoke in complete sentences before she was a year old. Her little brother, my son, on the other hand will be 27 in May and he’s still working on some of those : )

Got to run some more errands. Thanks for taking time to chat.

I still think something is strange about that Oldest Person in Japan thread.

Great mama jay shot, Mama Bear! I would love to watch a nest..The only time I can get up close to wildlife is when I go out to feed the raccoons..They have me trained well.

The Ruby Throated Humminbird male was here again this morning..I need to move the feeder closer to the sliding door so I can see him better..
I swear I saw him hover close to a tube feeding Cardinal once..drawn by the color I suppose.
Wish I had bunches of hummingbirds but I’ll settle for my one rather than none like last year..
It’s a beautiful day in Central Texas.

sounds scrumptious! And I love veggies, so either or both as a side is fine with me! :)
I’m fixing fried chicken tonite, if I don’t burn it. I know better than to start supper and turn on my computer! The two are not compatible!

I can’t believe how busy we were today! Not only was it pouring most of the day, today was the 30th Newport Pig Pickin’. It’s the largest whole hog bbq in the US. I think they cooked 85 pigs last night. You could smell it all over town. Proceeds are donated to worthy causes.
