Generally, a night for "safe" songs all around. The one contestant who really needed to shine, Kristy Lee, did, and everyone else generally turned in as-expected performances.
- David A. - He got a little swallowed by by the band, and it was one of his weaker technical performances, but he did a good job connecting with his song and the audience. Talk about getting one "in the wheelhouse"... inspirational songs! A-
- Kristy Lee - Technically, the best she's ever sounded to me. I think she's starting to really figure out what to sing, and it's helping her. A lot. She still isn't getting the emotional connection to the songs that I'd like to see, though. A-
- Jason - Offbeat, interesting (although much like every other Jason Castro song), this "lighter" song was a nice breath of fresh air on a night when so many "serious" songs were being sung. B+
- Brooke - Solid, dependable, unoriginal. I can't make any complaints about how she sang the song (and for a change, she didn't hide behind a piano or guitar), but there was nothing there I couldn't get from the Carole King version. B-
- Michael - I just didn't find it particularly convincing. He should not have attempted the high notes at the end; they didn't mesh with the way he sang the rest of it. B-
- David C. - Really not his best choice of song or performance, but he can afford to cruise this week. C-
- Syesha - Diana sang it better than Fantasia in the first place, and Fantasia sang it better than Syesha. The vibrato was overdone, and the various sections of the song didn't match each other very well. D+
- Carly - Over-ambitious choice... this was literally Freddie Mercury's swan song, and it would have been near-impossible to pull off even if she hadn't completely lost the pitch right at the end. At least the makeup and wardrobe were improvements. D
No change in the overall rankings this week.

Just my opinion -
David Archuleta is not getting any better. Some might reply that he is already head & shoulders above everyone else, but I say he hasn’t hit one out of the park in several weeks, judges’ comments notwithstanding. I predict the pressure will ultimately overwhelm him, and he will NOT be the American Idol.
Kristy Lee - She might be the sleeper who comes on strong at the end and finishes in the final three, maybe even goes into the final.
Jason - I just don’t get him. I rate him at the bottom every week. If you listen to his actual singing voice, you cannot honestly say he has one of the best voices. No way.
Brooke - She’s growing on me. I didn’t like her at all until the last week or two. Now I get her. I don’t think she’ll make it to the final three, though.
Michael - He has the potential to win it all, but he needs to immediately stop the impersonating/imitating performances and show us what HE can do.
David Cook - He could win it all . . . . if he doesn’t get booted tomorrow night. That was a mediocre performance last night. He might be in trouble.
Syesha - Why isn’t she gone already? If you listen to her singing voice, it could just as well be a hundred other performers. Ho hum. (Randy is doing his best to keep her from getting booted. I wonder why?)
Carly - She’s one of my favorites, and I was disappointed her performance last night wasn’t better received. IMO, she needs to lighten up the eye makeup and try to keep her eyes open while performing, to make a better connection with the audience. She needs to do anything she can do so she isn’t perceived to be scary when she performs.

All you ever need to know about the one they call The HotnessThanks :) I forgot how funny those TVGasm recaps used to be.
Next up was one of the most vile creatures to ever make its way onto television. It's name was Jennifer Chapton, and I suppose I should be so generous as to give her a female pronoun, but honestly, I do so begrudgingly. Jennifer informed us that her nickname was "The Hotness," which was quite ironic since she looked like the slutty sister of Mrs. Potatohead.
LMAO!!

It is wearing a little thin, but nothing like Melinda Doolittle’s, “What? You like poor little me?” reactions last season.

Michael: Wow. Sounded just like Steven Tyler - in 2018 - after the throat cancer sets in...OMG! Funny...but sorta sad. LOL

From Dial Idol, which is just a barometer.
Botton 5:
Brooke White 6.64
Michael Johns 6.39
David Cook 6.37
Syesha Mercado 5.21
Carly Smithson 4.95
There's enough of a gap between Carly and Syesha, that it just could by Carly going home, BUT, I suspect they will claim it was too close to call and throw Syehsa under the bus.

Zabasearch has Carly, Brooke and Screesha in the bottom three.
They may need the straitjackets on Thursday...

Zabasearch has been off lately. So much so that they change their site after the results and don’t even comment about the change. They are actually more laughable than Dial Idol for predictions.

They may need the straitjackets on Thursday... You are right about the straightjackets thought and it seems Paula put hers on early and was wearing it last night!

Did you know he leads worship sometimes at his church in Rockwall, Texas? :-)Really? He seems genuinely sweet and humble. I like that he's a Construction Science major at Texas A&M, was raised with a work ethic ~ not a prima donna.
Of all the contestants, I'd be most willing to buy an album of Jason's just to hear in the car on a long road trip.

OOOOOOH... Monchichi is soooooooo busted! Archuleta Saw "Angels" Way Before Idol Not really, this is a massive mis-characterization. He said he had a few songs in mind, reviewed them during the week, and then decided on this one. Nowhere did he say he just discovered the song, in fact, it was strongly implied that he was already very familiar with it.
