The fatigue the bug caused was one of the worst symptoms. I had it from start to end for over a month. My chest got so tight I had to get an inhaler.

I suppose it’s influenza, since they now acknowlege the flu shot wasn’t very effective.

Side Note: That bug you guys are talking about, went around here in Colorado. I caught it on 31 December 2006. I am over most of it now, but still have some crap in my lungs. I didnt go to the doctor, just fought it off (even stayed home a few days to avoid giving it to others).

Several people in my family DID go to the doctor and the hospital in one case. ALL of them were told “it is an ‘upper respiratory infection’ and given inhalers”. None got antibiotics though, which is indicative of a viral infection (what the flu and colds usually are). But NO ONE would call it “the flu”.

In fact, when I finally went to the doc for ear problems a couple weeks back, he even said “We won’t call that the flu, lets just call it an ‘upper respiratory infection’ and be done with it... and you’re better now, right?”

Strange. And my doctor is pretty good about ‘sharing’ information with me too... I found that creepy.

"The fatigue the bug caused was one of the worst symptoms. I had it from start to end for over a month. My chest got so tight I had to get an inhaler."

It's a nasty one, isn't it? I got a flu shot in October since I travel so much, and I managed to escape several bad bugs my kids brought home that seemed to be variants of the flu. Maybe the shot helped. Maybe it wore off? Maybe it was mis-targeted and wouldn't apply to this bug? Who knows. There's no doubt my affliction is influenza, either. Rather classic symptoms. And you can appreciate how it can kill people. I'm healthy, in decent shape, and probably only caught it from getting run-down with too much travel and not dosing myself with Airborne as meticulously as I should've. But once I had it I'd say my strength and endurance were reduced by 80-90%, to a point where I was starting to get rather worried. I'm getting better fast now, thanks to lots of rest, tons of vitamins, no aspirin or other fever-reducer (fever is good! ...to a point, of course), and an occasional dosing of codeine late in the game to stop the cataclysmic (and pointlessly unproductive) cough. Gad I love codeine, a true wonder drug. For me, it's the only thing that works for a chest-shattering cough like that.

Anyway, I got the bug Tuesday, and now it's Friday and I'm much, much improved. Now to avoid over-doing things and causing a relapse! Those suck majorly.
