Something tells you’re behind it all, Lame. I better keep an eye on you. You’re good at spreading mayhem wherever you go. :P

That’s beautiful, Cardy! That’s a painting? Looks more like a photo, it’s so lifelike. I wish I had talent like that.

Yes, I saw that when I went to check upon his bio. What intrigues me is the fact that these young Iranian girls look just like the sisters of William Bouguereau´s young ladies of almost 200 years ago.

I agree Derly, the realists put their argument on canvas with paint - the modernists have to use the pen to explain their delusions. I has better duck if LJ hears me.

All my students paint realistically but one who is a fantasy artist.

I read Iman Maleki´s bio and was curious about his teacher, Morteza Katouzian who, he claimed, was the greatest Realist painter in Iran.

Here is the bio of his teacher who was self-trained. He must be very very good to nurture such a pupil as Iman Maleki.

Perhaps you will find some resonance in your own life with the tale he tells:

After reading Katouzian’s bio, I wanted to see what his work was like. His depression is very visible in many of his sketches and paintings. Some of his pieces remind me Salvador Dali’s work, others are so brutally painful, and some portray a very deep sadness. (There appears to be a touch of madness buried in his canvas.) Of course, that is just my opinion. Check for yourself:

Just in case you misunderstand. I meant to say, did you write in Reagan for your vote this time?

I'm a big fan of Reagan and what he did.

Thank you, I’ll read it later.

When I was asked to teach the class a big concern was how to let the students develop their style while critiquing them. Turns out that it wasn’t as hard as I’d thought it would be and I enjoy the styles of them all.

You are so right, Lady. Each student has his/her own talent (I believe God given). It is up to the teacher to give helpful hints, but the student will develop his own direction, if allowed (and encouraged.)

This style of teaching was not permitted when I majored in art at college. We all had to make our paper or canvas exactally like the professor’s or the student got less than good grades. IMHO, many talents were shattered in that workshop.

What you see is correct, but almost all of them were painted during the Iran, Iraq War where more than a million soldiers and civilians died on both sides.

Perhaps he was depicting the plight of Iran then, not his personal angst.

Artists have always chronicled their times, he could not very well ignore the sadness, horror and futility of it all.
