Getting in late because I had to watch the first hour on tape after the show...
Anyone else notice Colton’s tongue hanging out like he was itchin’ to lick a pogo stick when the camera panned over him and the next contestant as they were going to commercial after Danny Noriega?
That one pegged the meter.
OK they have hyped the best top 24 ever for weeks, and I am sorry but tonight was totally UNDERWHELMING!
There were some very good performances, but overall it was a boring night of safe and weak song choices in a genre that had a lot of promise.
Simon was especially brutal, and Paula was bordering on incomprehensible. She was so wasted tonight it wasn’t even funny.
Anyway on to the ratings:
1. Michael Johns - Light My Fire - The performance of the evening, head and shoulders above everyone else. Definate championship contender.
2. David Archuletta - Shop Around - The kid is just so damn cute, and looks like he is having a blast up there. Plus he was excellent vocally.
3. Robbie Carrico - One - In one word, GREAT! Excellent vocal, good take on the song. He will be a factor throughout the season.
4. Jason Castro - Daydream - Ok is it just me, or does he give off a little “welcome back Kotter” John travolta vibe. Great vocal. I really liked it.
5. David Cook - So Happy Together - I was with Randy on this one, when he started I was thinking “Oh god what a mistake”, but by the end of the song I was hooked.
6. David Hernandez - In The Midnight Hour - Good performance, good but not great. Will be hurt by going first, but I think he is a solid top 12 shot.
7. Coltan Berry - Suspicious Minds - Now starts the also rans. not bad, but nothing special. Coltan has a nice voice, but not memorable at all.
8. Chikezie - I love you More Today - Wrong song choice. Chikezie gets 8th because someone has to go here and he didn’t suck as bad as the rest.
9. Jason Yeager - Moon River - Really does have a good voice, but what a SNOOZER of a song. He knew he had no screen time and had to do something special to stand out, and he did not step up to the plate.
10. Luke menard - Echoes of My Mind — More like Echoes of a chance to stand out blown completely. Not good , not good at all.
11. Danny Noriega - Jailhouse Rock - Ok I will admit I have Danny down this low because the arrogant little snot just annoyus the hell out of me. His performance was just hideaous enough and over the top to give me even more reason to put him down here. I am with Simon - GHASTLY!!!
12. Garrett Haley - Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - but getting voted off is easy to do, and that is exactly what will happen here. Easily the worst of the night.
OK - I think Chikezie, jason Y, Luke and Garrett have to really be worried. I think Danny may have enough little girls and old ladies conned into keeping him around. Chikezie might benefit a little from exposure in the earlier episodes.
BYE BYE Garrett and Luke Or Jason Y.
LMAO!!
No, four will be eliminated this week: two guys and two girls.
This will repeat the next two weeks until we have a Top 12.
Great call on the Monchichis. Best line of the night.
My daughters had them, too, way back in the seventies.
You have a great memory for nostalgia—I guess that’s why your name is RETRO-kitten.
It will be close. Chekezie was memorable, at least (maybe not for the right reasons). The Garrett Haley kid is such a lightweight, I don't think many people will be motivated to vote for him.
Not guilty!
:oD
LOLOL!! I thought no one else would remember that :)
I tried to Google up a photo of Nelson listening to Andy Williams :)
Party of tolerance, right?
Yes indeed :-/
This guy sounds like a doofus. Isn't the entire Obama campaign built on Oprah-ized emotions?
Thank you very much :)
Oh my - please accept my prayers on behalf of your mom and your entire family. God bless you.
Going into tonight’s competition (keeping in mind I didn’t see all the auditions and some didn’t get as much exposure): Michael Johns, David Archuletta, Chikezie, Robbie Carrico, David Hernandez
My Top 5 tonight (in no particular order): Michael Johns (Light My Fire), David Archuletta (Shop Around), Robbie Carrico (One Is The Loneliest Number), Jason Castro (Daydream), David Hernandez (In The Midnight Hour)
Probably survive: Chikezie (based on auditions and he’ll get the “black vote”), David Cook, Danny Noreiga (”gay vote” might keep him around for a few rounds, especially if Colton gets voted off this week)
In trouble: Jason Yeager, Luke Menard, Colton Berry, Garrett Haley
I’m so very sorry about your mom. My husband and I have had several family members with cancer. It is so hard. Prayers and hugs for you.
Hey SJ — just wanted to say thank you so much for keeping this thread going yet another season! I skipped most of the auditions this year — the bad ones just break my heart (and my eardrums!) so I’m only just now trying to find time away from my little guys to watch the show. Maybe I’ll get a chance this week. (I did manage to see Hollywood week but then didn’t have time to read this thread!) Anyway, just wanted to say howdy. :)
That’s similar to the way I saw it, too.
I’ll go ahead and rank them.
1. David Archuleta(good singer and a likable kid)
2. Michael Johns(IMO, Archuleta’s only serious competition at this point among the guys)
3. Jason Castro(memorable oddball performance that was greater than the sum of its parts)
4. David Hernandez(nice voice)
5. David Cook(not a great voice but a good performer)
6. Robbie Carrico(wasn’t bad but I’m with Simon in that I’m not convinced that he’s a legitimate rocker)
7. Jason Yeager(good voice but what the heck was he thinking opening with that song choice. He may be sunk before he even really gets started)
8. Chikezie Eze(that sounded pitchy to me and I was surprised the judges didn’t say so)
9. Colton Berry(not my cuppa tea but not awful)
10. Luke Menard(inoffensive, will probably make it through this cut by virtue of his looks)
11. Danny Noriega(the surprise of the night for me. The kid can sing but he was bad tonight. Obnoxious little twit, too. Right now he’s the one I’d most like to see voted off.)
12. Garrett Haley(dude sing like a lady. Seems like a nice kid but I don’t like his type of voice)
I thought this season’s opening show with the guys was much more entertaining than last season’s.

There are some interesting tidbits about Idol Plants on their front page blog.
I'd pay to see that!

During the intro to the American Idol top twelve boys performance show, Seacrest pointed out the top twelve girls in the audience. The only problem is that there werent twelve girls. There were only eleven girls.

LOL--they're pulling people during the show ;)
It's probably nothing.
If they had to pull somebody then they would say so, IMO. Like they did in 2005, when whatshisname dropped out of the top 12 and was replaced by Nikko Smith.
