Micheal Lee (now going by Michael Johns) is a contestant of American Idol Season 7. Mike auditioned in San Diego and got through easily. (Not surprisingly!). You can check out his audition here. Rumour has it that Mike made his way pretty far in the competition. He sang in cover bands for years in Atlanta before (and after) his stint in Film, so this competition might as well have been made for him. Michael Lee Johns already has a fan site going: The Aussie Possie! - make sure you add them as a friend and stay tuned as we work together to help Michael go all the way!
After Michael Johns left Film he joined The Rising. He used 2 Film songs (Q — renamed to So Alive” and “Coming Down”) but unfortunately got dropped before the cd was ever released. You can’t buy The Rising’s CD, but.. you can still get a copy of those songs (exactly the same version) on Film’s EP “rolling”, available from Amazon or iTunes.

Idol is looking for talented people though and let’s face it, there aren’t that many people who emerge from no where not having done something before. If there were any real standard on who was a pro versus who was an amateur then you never would have seen Doughtry, Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice or a host of others. You get Sanjaya instead. If people are going to really follow the show then the talent has to be worth something.....

Out of how many though? And, say back in season 5 where Kat McPhee who had been trained by a professional voice coach, what do you do with that? Or how about Paris who comes from a musical family? Jordin Sparks was a fomer plus sized model, what about her? Melinda was a fomer back up singer.
In the end the better people have some type of background. There simply aren’t that many people who emerge out of nowhere with no past experience.

The point is — where do you draw the line? Since season 3, the finalists have all had significant professional or semi-pro experience.
3: Fantasia sang with her family’s group; Diana was a frequent public performer — both since age 5.
4: Carrie was semi-pro enough to release an album; Bo was a former touring member of a major recording artist.
5: Taylor was a professional singer; McPhee was a professional musical theater actress.
6: Jordin was a former “star search” winner, right? Blake was at least semi-pro; Melinda was a professional backup singer.)
