WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs resigned as coach and team president of the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, the Associated Press has learned.
A person familiar with Gibbs' decision, speaking on condition of anonymity because the news had not been officially announced, said Gibbs would make his resignation known later Tuesday morning and would discuss it at 3 p.m. news conference.

Have you heard something about John Fox? The word I'm hearing, as late as last night, is that the Panthers are fine with him for now.
The only way Fox was leaving is if he quit to take a job with the Giants, and since Coughlin's not getting fired, I think John Fox will be the Panthers' coach next year.

I’d put the Skins on the short list of places Cowher might end up eventually, mainly because they can afford him.
The other places I could see are the Dolphins (less likely now with Parcells), the Falcons, or the Ravens (with the Newsome connection). If the Wade Phillips doesn’t stay with the Cowboys long-term, that’s a possibility, and I could even see him going back where he started with the Browns at some point.

I had season tickets in the mid-80’s. It was a blast! Even the supposed “bad boy” Dexter Manley looks classy compared to some of the thugs in uniform these days. I was also a huge fan of Art Monk, he was the hardest working man in the NFL.

He's always been the heir apparent. I've liked what he's done with the defense there, but I know a lot of Bills fans who hate the guy.
Short of bringing Marty back, Williams is probably their best bet, assuming they can keep him. He'll probably have an offer or two come his way this offseason.
I'm definitely not sold on the prospect of Al Saunders as a head coach. I see "Norv Turner Redux" written all over that idea. I'm more comfortable losing him to another team than seeing him in the top job.

From WaPo SPorts Writer Jason La Canfora’s blog,
“I spoke to a source who knows Cerrato [GM] well who said he believes it will be Bill Cowher. He thinks that Cowher will get the keys to the kingdom and become the first $10-million coach, or in that range. “

‘Skins seem like a good fit for Cowher.

If they don’t bring Saunders back they might as well trade Campbell.
I don’t really see what they get with Cowher (149-90-1) and I don’t see him getting along with Snyder.

That's true. Cowher will probably only take a job that gives him near-total control over the organization. That probably rules out the Cowboys, come to think of it.
I think they want to keep Saunders, but I'm not sure if that happens in the current market if Greg Williams is head coach.
Campbell was steadily improving until the injury, so I'd hate to see him go. Under Gibbs, Redskins football was never about the quarterback, but that may well change depending on who the OC is next year. Until that's settled, it's hard to tell what they're going to want in a quarterback.

Re:
Id put the Skins on the short list of places Cowher might end up... I had the same thought when I first heard Gibbs was gone... As a Cowboys' Fan, I would rather they hire someone I can really hate. Someone like Buddy Ryan.
