This fell off from underneath the front passenger side of my car (06' Toyota Camry) about a half-hour ago, while I was driving:
Anyone know what it is? Is it important to get it back on ASAP? I kind of new it was going to eventually come off as it was making noise and hanging low, flapping the past couple weeks.
I fed a wire hanger through the hole two Fridays ago, and hooked it up using the front grate of the car. I knew it probably wouldn't stay on forever.
Can't find much on the Toyota forums. There is another comparable piece underneath the car on the driver's side which is just flapping in the wind when I drive. When I go over 45 I can hear a scraping sound, but am thinking it's just the sound of the wind hitting this panel (the one that didn't completely fall off yet).
Any input welcome, except for "Take it to a dealer or call a dealer." My lease is up soon and it's not worth putting more $$$ into the car, since I'm a good customer and they never penalize me for returning cars with minor problems in the past, when the lease is up.

Part of an air duct like that broke off my Chevy when I went into a pothole and the frame hit the pavement but the car bounced out and the air dam seems to work okay what’s left of it. It was loud, it was harsh, but it’s a Chevy with at least 50% genuine American parts so it is okay.
They suffer from extreme seperation anxiety, and chew up everything when left alone.
I have heard that peaople have had to muzzle them, to preclude their eating rocks.
I don’t recall a framistat on the 06 models
Had to start putting them on the 05 models

Only on the diesel engine 06 models. It's used to rotate the spark plugs.
I'm not quite following though, she has been spending a lot of time with this other kid called a Black Labrador. (Lab for short?)
Not sure where she came from either but man can that kid run! I figure the Olympics are in her future.
Maybe I can pull one of those endorsement contracts.

Do not buy a new piece until you try reinstalling the old piece. And by all means get the other piece underneath your car, that is loose, fastened back up.

Maybe its a throw out-bearing...those go bad a lot. Never seen one...but I’ve heard about ‘em.
Haven’t read through to see if this has been answered yet but my mechanic hubby says it’s a dust shield. Keeps debris out of the engine if I understood him right. He says it’s no biggie though & that these things are always getting snagged on something.

Of course you've never seen one. Either the car throws it out when being driven; or the mechanic throws it out when it isn't being driven. Either way, you wouldn't see it.

Car shorts eh? Must have been going too fast and in a rut. Resulting drag heated the spandex up and got it brittle thusly shearing it off in the wind......
