I've tried several times to 'get into' Jane Austen's writing, but I just can't do it! I'd much prefer to see a screen adaptation of any of them. Emma Thompson won an Oscar for her screenplay of Sense and Sensibility, and I considered it truly deserved, after trying to actually read the book once. Same with Persuasion. I love the version with Amanda Root and Ciarian Hinds, but not the one that was done more recently, and shown on Masterpiece Theatre earlier this year.

I, on the other hand, love her books...so I’m pretty critical of the screen adaptations. But Pride and Prejudice is a masterpiece, IMO. It’s not the same as a two-hour movie, but I wouldn’t want it to be.
Heh...I think we pretty much watched it straight through when we got it, with brief food breaks. Brothers included. I guess we’re all a bunch of rather romantic and sentimental fools. ;-)
