Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

My children are being unreasonable again.
I gave them dinner ~last night~. Shouldn’t that be enought?
You’ve spoiled ‘em, that’s what. Now they expect dinner *every* night.
ungrateful varmints...
Ugh...I hate those first few days on a low-carb-ish diet when you aren’t really hungry, but would just about kill for a candy bar...
I want a Snickers. Or M&Ms or something. Badly.
Can you eat sugar free chocolate? I’ve found some dark varieties that are pretty tasty.
I think that’s a slippery slope until I get past the first little bit...
In a couple of weeks I’ll pick up some good dark chocolate and have a square or so most days. By then it’ll seem sweeter and be satisfying without makin’ me want other sweets.
Tonight, I just need to shop for more veggies. And pistachios and cheese sticks.
I always have to go out of the way to find fresh stuff, ‘cause the produce at the store doesn’t look so good.
Heh...I’m from a dinky town in the middle of nowhere, pretty much as far north as you can get and still be in the US. They’ll have snow on the ground until May. I’m pretty pleased with the selection we get here! Lots of good fresh produce from CA, and plenty of local produce in season. And for good prices, for the most part!
Granted, shipping has improved a lot. Vermont gets a much better selection than it used to. I remember Mom mentioning when I was little just how much more they could get in Portland, OR where they’d just moved from. Now, it’s not really that bad. Not as good as here, but not bad.
This part of central Fla is prone to drought, so we don’t get much here. Even the farmers’ markers are too far away, and I don’t have a car anymore. :( No thanks on the snow until May, I like the spring.
Evening Ramius - Glad to hear it. That was a nice thorough rundown on the ‘newest’ one. :-) The Kimbers at the gunshop range are quite well received as well.
I’ve finally gotten my indoor lettuce up to harvesting stage. This year I’ll have to plant “winter lettuce” early enough for it to be mostly grown before the cold weather hits.
So ~thats~ what they're callin' it now.
Mmm...lettuce.
Well, I got peppers, cauliflower, scallions, cheese, pistachios, Splenda, lotsa tuna, lemon juice and hair goop, all on the proceeds of the typewriter sale this weekend, so that’s cool.
Oh, and cabbage. Forgot about that.
Mmm...cabbage salad with balsamic vinaigrette...
I like cauliflower and peppers, but my stomach does not tolerate them so well.
What? No collards?
Dang, I missed a food group. ;-)
I do have spinach, for what that’s worth. Had some with dinner with a little olive oil and cider vinegar. Mmm...tasty.
I wish fresh spinach didn’t make my teeth feel funny, though.
You're supposed to rinse off the sand, first.
Teeheee. Been there... learned that. blech. :)
I’m off the carb-less regime for two days - I’ve got an insulin test tomorrow and want to make sure it’s working with the “natural” me not the “carb free” me. Would not want to improve my own health just enough to miss out on helpful medicine :D
