The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I don’t think Ramius would be a good dog groomer ;~)

Can you start some sort of business that’s animal related? Like... I dunno... dog groomer? Horse groomer? Something that would give you some experience that would be good when you do start your boarding stable?

I don’t think so... setting up a dog grooming shop would be fairly expensive... and there’s a lot of them in town already.

Horse groomer... well, I don’t think there’s a demand for that... not in the circles I travel in.

That’s not really the kind of experience I need.

I’d love and take a barn manager job... but those are few and far between, and hard to get. I need to be my own barn manager.

You could be one of those groomers-in-a-van and drive around and shampoo mutts in the back.

I’m sure g’nad could make some openings for new barn managers in your area if you asked him nicely...

I don’t want to be a dog groomer, really... not enough to buy and equip a van... but thanks Jen.

I should just do my work. It’s guilt about procrastinating that that started all this musing.

I do think it could be kinda fun to work for a store that sells stuff I’d be interested in. I’ve thought about applying at the bookstore here, for example.

And it’s true, the vet’s office might have reception folks that don’t work full time.

Part of it, too, is probably just that we’re ready for spring. :-\ I *almost* want to mow my lawn and all that. I still wish I had a better place...but I guess I can’t make that happen overnight.

I am at least getting my van looked at, after much fretting and procrastination on that score. So there’s that.

You’re right. I’ll be in a much better mood when I can work in the yard. And then a job would just get in the way. :~)

I have it pretty good. I should just appreciate it and do it better.

I know it would be a lot of work and I’d probably end up hating it but - I would love to own a used bookstore. I’d want an old house on a commercial street that I could just fill up with bookshelves. And then have a hobbyist sort of annex with gaming supplies or model kits and things too.

It’s the sort of thing I could see being a good retirement deal. There’s a place just like that back home. They’re off the beaten track quite a long way, actually, but they also ship used books on the internet, and they’re one of the few shows in town.

It’s just a big rambling farm house with books *everywhere*. And they live in one portion of the house. It means being “stuck” at home part of the time, but...if books are your thing, and you’re able to sit and read whenever you don’t have customers...not a bad way to go! I doubt they make a ton of money on it, though.
