The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Yeah, we're at a whopping big 8 degrees here, but with the wind, well...

SirKit's been reading a lot about sunspot activity, and it's affect on temps on earth. Seems the last few years there have been quite a few sunspots, which would account for the higher temps overall. The last 28 days, there haven't been ANY, as in zip, zero, nada! We don't have to wonder why it got colder, all of a sudden! Historically, the extended times of lower sunspot activity are called minimums; the Maunder Minimum in the Middle Ages and the Dalton Minimum in the early 1800s. I told SirKit that if we are, in fact, going into a time of low sunspot activity, so that we actually end up with Global Cooling, they need to name it the Algore Minimum. ;o)

ManBearPig Minimum.

Someone on my GirlFriends mailing list didn't know that Vince Foster was found dead in Fort Marcy Park, a park she drives past every workday. I had to explain who Vince Foster was, and how he was connected to Maggie Williams.

I had forgotten all that nasty dreck ... or so I thought. Suddenly, I was remembering Bernie Nussbaum and Christopher Ruddy and Craig Livingstone and TravelGate and The Rose Law Firm and Whitewater and Kenneth Starr and Robert Fiske and Richard Scaife and the Park Police and the "101 Unanswered Questions Surrounding Vince Foster's Death" and I felt the desperate need to bathe.

Egad, the Clintons are icky. Everything they touch turns to ick, and the ick becomes an integral part of the things and people they defile with their touch. I walked away from that crud --- and gladly! --- on January 20, 2001, and I resent that these people are back again, perturbing me ...!

" ...Huge grains of salt ...!"

That’s it...I’m movin’ off grid. If’n yuh want to talk to me yer gonna have tuh walk up to the front porch.

We’ve decided to switch from Comcast to Verizon. I just spent the last 20 minutes giving the info to the Verizon rep (who was American, but still difficult to understand, I think she had a cold). She put me on hold to verify the installation date and we were disconnected.

So I calls back.

The new person, much more understandable, tells me that since they’re at an incoming call center that unless I was given a confirmation number, there’s no way to trace my call.

But if I have about 15 minutes...

No, I don’t. Not now anyway.

~sigh~

Kermit: Have you tried Hare Krishna?

This job I have. It’s easy, I’ll never find easier... but it’s turned me into a rather lazy hermit. I’m no longer doing a good job at it and I just don’t care about it. And I’m not sure my employer would ever really notice or take action about it. I think I need to do something else just to kick start my motivation.

I’d only want part time, I think, or things here would fall apart... a few hours a day or a few days a week would be good.

I can’t imagine returning to a cubicle job. Almost thinking I’d rather work at the feed store. Honestly I have no ambition to get a job that would require panty hose.

Or a vet clinic. Something like that would seem like part of my life, not a stark diversion from it.

But then... I’ll never find another opportunity that is better than what I have. But I’ve been working without any supervision or accountability so long I’ve lost my work ethic.

I’d get more done if I had less time. Do you understand that?

Boy oh boy, do I understand that. I live it too.

I don’t know what to do about it, either.

Who was it that said, if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it?

Are you stuck to certain hours with your current job? Could you do a couple hours in the morning at the feed store or a clinic, or heck even a doggie bath shop and still keep your job?

Just a thought.

I keep running the question through my mind, “what do I really love doing...?” I’ve been coming up empty.

No - there are no hours. I can do it everything I need to do in one long day or two, or put it off a month, and it just doesn't make that much difference. That's the thing.

I could definitely do another job and keep this one. But that alone wouldn't make me do this job better.

oh please... yer a couple pocket-protector wearin' geeks... heh... I remember when I put in a job app at the local feed store... they looked at it and asked "you want this job?"... I would have been happy there as a diversion and some pocket change... glad that I'm where I am now...

I'm sorry you come up empty... the thing is... I don't come up empty. I now what I'd like to be doing. Running a boarding stable. But the first step is a doozy.

Same problem I have. I know what I want to be doing.

I just can’t figure out a way to make it pay.

Pet groomer.

Really ... I think you could make a nice go of a little retail store in Olympia, with pet goodies and toys and accessories in front and a groomer's in back.

Or a mobile groomer.
